After the Fall is an Angel comic book series from IDW Publishing, originally published from November 2007 to February 2009. It is the canonical continuation of the fifth and final season of the Angel television series.
Summary[]
After Team Angel destroyed the Circle of the Black Thorn, Wolfram & Hart retaliated by sending Los Angeles to hell. In this situation, Wesley remains contractually bound to Wolfram & Hart; Gunn became a vampire who captures victims under the pretense that he is rescuing them; and Angel's son Connor, ex-girlfriend Nina, and old acquaintance Gwen work to provide a safe house for the people of Los Angeles under siege by Demon Lords. Angel himself, and a friendly dragon, "Cordelia," are forced to live in hell as Angel discovers he is now human and vulnerable. Gunn then successfully kills Angel, which causes the Senior Partners to create a temporal fold to restore the city and its inhabitants to before the Fall of Los Angeles.
Continuity[]
- The events take place after "Not Fade Away" but before The Long Way Home, Part One.
- The story is parallel to the Spike: After the Fall miniseries.
- The series continues as Angel without the subtitle After the Fall for 27 more issues, although with dubious canon value.

Behind the scenes[]
- With the publication of Spike: Asylum in 2006, editor Chris Ryall received an email from Joss Whedon saying that Byan Lynch had "hit a home run" and that the miniseries convinced him to revisit Angel's story. Whedon then encountered with Lynch and told him where he and the other Angel writers had planned to take the series had it returned for a sixth season, "including ideas that they weren't going to try, but he always kind of liked, in case I wanted to grab little pieces from it." As a fan of Betta George in the miniseries, Whedon suggested he make a return appearance in After the Fall as well, despite his apparent death.[1]
