“Just as I thought! Spud the Dragon!”
―Wendy

Spud the Dragon is the seventh episode of the fifth series.

Plot

Bob and Wendy are going on the job with Lofty and Muck to have the heat insulation installed in Mrs. Potts' Loft. Meanwhile, Mrs. Percival is preparing costumes for tonight's school play and Spud brings a ladder from Farmer Pickles who has kindly let Mrs. Percival borrow it for the school play. After Mrs. Percival left, Spud wears many costumes, and he wears the dragon costume and simply borrows it, stating that Mrs. Percival will not mind if he borrows it and promises to return it in time for the place.

Bob and Wendy then enter the loft to install the heat insulation (with Wendy reminding Bob to stand on the roof joints and if he treads in between, his foot will go through the ceiling), they see lots of old junk and Bob then plays with a tambourine. Later, Spud pretends to be a magic dragon when he sees Muck, he tricks him/her by closing his/her eyes and draws a cat face on him/her. However, Bob has too much fun with a tambourine and accidentally loses his balance and falls, sending his leg through the ceiling. Lofty is sent to retrieve plaster board, a bag of plaster and white paint, while Wendy goes on the step ladder to push Bob's foot back up and free him. Spud then pretends to be a scary dragon and scares Lofty and reverse backwards. Lofty races back to Mrs Potts's house and explains all to Wendy. So Wendy rides back to the yard with Lofty and reassures him that they are no dragons. When she returns, she sees Muck's cat face drawn on him/her and finds out that someone is up to mischief. Wendy installs the heat insulation and Bob repairs the hole in the ceiling.

Spud then emerges from the woods to scare off Lofty, but however, Wendy and Bob recognise Spud's voice from the costume and they chase him. While running to evade Bob and Wendy, Spud accidentally tears the costume's green cloth from the bushes before he trips over the tattered cloth from the costume and into the mud as Bob and Wendy arrive at the scene. As the costume is ruined, Bob and Wendy, along with Spud, go to Mrs. Percival to tell her what has happened, and she is disappointed that the costume will not be repaired in time for tonight's play. However, Wendy remembers Mrs. Potts saying that her old junk in the loft would come in handy and uses some of it to repair the costume. Wendy arrives with the repaired costume and pretends to be a dragon, causing Spud to run away scared despite Wendy trying to reassure Spud that it was only her.
