Spoiler2

The information in the article below contains spoilers for the BFDI series. Please watch the episode(s) if you have not seen them yet.

Hey, what's this? BFDI Game Rules?

Battle for Dream Island Again, otherwise known as BFDIA and stylized in the logo as Battle for Dream Island AGAIN, also jokingly called "Battle for Nothing" in "Zeeky Boogy Doog" and "But Flower's Doing It" in "Lots of Mud", is the 2nd season of Battle for Dream Island. It features 12 returning contestants from BFDI, along with 10 new contestants (6 of which were the recommended characters from the previous season), which were voted onto the show by the viewers. Also, unlike the last season, there are multiple different hosts throughout the show instead of the Announcer, who hosted the previous season. It was revealed in SOS (Save Our Show) that the Announcer had been running BFDIA this whole time (TV was following Announcer's orders, the Puffball Speaker Box was a creation by the Announcer, and he told the Firey Speaker Box to eat yoyleberries in hopes no one found out he was behind this season).

After Michael Huang announced that he and Cary were taking a break from BFDI due to difficulties juggling both production of the show and their schoolwork, BFDI went on hiatus for roughly three years, until the premiere of IDFB, a 3rd season, with its only episode so far, "Welcome Back", releasing on September 1st, 2016. With the release, BFDIA was confirmed to be cancelled. This was later confirmed in "SOS (Save Our Show)" where the Announcer addresses this and the next season as "cancelled".

On September 1st, 2023, the season saw an official revival with the release of "Well Rested", exactly 10 years after the planned airdate of the unfinished original 6th episode. BFDIA now runs concurrently with Battle for Dream Island: The Power of Two.

Overview[]

This season involves 22 inanimate objects (12 veterans, 10 newbies) that the viewers voted to compete for Dream Island, which, despite declaring a winner last season, still does not have an owner. The contestants are divided into 2 teams; before a contest, players may switch teams if they want to. Contests are chosen by spinning a wheel, and the winning team gets immunity, while the losing team is up for elimination—the viewers vote by rating (liking/disliking) contestants' videos. The contestant with the most likes on their video can spin a wheel and receive a prize depending on when the wheel stops, while the contestant who has the most dislikes on their video is eliminated and sent to the Tiny Loser Chamber, which is itself located in the Locker of Losers. However, when TV was flung there, he stole the key to it's lock and the current elimination place is the Weak Trembling Fortress.

In contrast to BFDI episodes typically chronologically taking place on the same day as their real-life airdate, post-revival BFDIA episodes are confirmed to take place exactly 10 years before their real-life airdate. For example, the first episode of this batch, "Well Rested", was released on September 1st, 2023 but takes place on September 1st, 2013.

Returning contestants[]

Bfdiseason2

The 22 contestants, as seen in the opening animation

Debuting contestants[]

  1. 1.0 1.1 Gelatin and Golf Ball were chosen to compete in BFDIA by DegrasssiFan and InternPony707 (now known as Dave George, with the handle being MrEvilRegi1) respectively, the two contest winners. (https://youtu.be/6KrxVYo0mBQ)
  2. 2.0 2.1 2.2 Book, Yellow Face, and Puffball didn't originally make it, but due to Leafy, Bubble, and Flower's absence, were allowed in.
  3. Yellow Face wasn't originally allowed into the voting, but was later allowed due to all of the votes he got, and also joined the game due to Leafy, Bubble, and Flower's absence.

Non-returning contestants[]

A bold name means that this contestant originally competed in the first season. An italic name means that this contestant would've competed in BFDIA had they been present.

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 Despite having sufficient votes, Leafy, Bubble, and Flower did not compete on account of them not being present/alive during the voting results.
  2. Despite not joining, TV still became the host of the season.
  3. 3.0 3.1 Even if they did get enough votes to join, Woody and Nonexisty would not be eligible to compete because they were dead/non-existent at the time of the voting results.

Team progression[]

The 22 contestants that were able to join are divided into 2 teams and were available to switch. Making one team with 3 and the other with 19.

Recommended characters[]

Recommending a character was slightly different from Season 1. Instead of simply recommending a character in the comments section of a video, you would recommend one on a Google rating system (similar to YouTube's rating system). At the end of the voting period (1st through 10th of every month), the 25 recommended characters with the most likes would be featured in the following episode. Copyrighted characters and people would not be allowed to be recommended. The link no longer works because Google Moderator has been shut down and redirects to a 404 page on bfdi.tv.

After the defunct of Jacknjellify's Patreon in 2021, recommended characters would cease to be accepted until the revival of BFDIA in 2023, where they would now be submitted through a Google Form to be randomly picked and included in future BFDIA episodes.

Battle for Dream Island - Season 2a (All Episodes)[]

On December 15, 2018, between the releases of "What Do You Think of Roleplay?" and "Return of the Rocket Ship", the jacknjellify channel uploaded an official, 1 hour and 22 minutes video compiling every episode of the 2nd season up to "The Long-lost Yoyle City", with black title cards marking the start of a new episode. On the old thumbnail, the word "2" was shown, and Coiny and Ruby's assets were unedited. In this upload, "Get in the Van" was changed to end early while fading into "The Fiber", then it plays the BFDIA 5b video while playing "The Fiber" twice instead of once like in the original video.

After the release of "Well Rested", the video's title was edited to mark the season as "Season 2a".

Trivia[]

  • BFDIA is the season that has the most special guests as voice actors for cameo characters.
  • Of the original Season 1 contestants, Leafy, Bubble, Flower, David, Blocky, Pen, Eraser, Snowball, and Woody did not qualify for this season.
  • This is the only season of BFDI that has the viewers pick the entire cast of contestants who get to compete.
  • Rocky was the most voted contestant to join this season.
  • After the release of "Well Rested", BFDIA was split into 2 parts. Season 2a takes place from "Yeah, Who? I Wanna Know" to "The Long-lost Yoyle City", and Season 2b starts with "Well Rested".
    • BFDIA is one of the 2 seasons to be split into 2 parts, the other being BFB.
    • These two parts are often referred to as pre-hiatus and post-hiatus, or pre-revival and post-revival. These names are likely derived from how seasons 4a and 4b are often referred to as pre-split and post-split.
  • This is the first season of BFDI that doesn't require voting with YouTube comments. Viewers instead voted by rating the contestants' videos.
    • BFB would return voting to the comments, and alternative methods for voting would not be seen again until "Oneirophobe's Nightmare", in which TPOT switched its voting to Google Forms, likely in the wake of vote wars.
  • As of the revival, this season is the not only the longest-running season of the overall series, but also holds the dubious record of being the longest-running object show ever, currently running for 11 years and 3 months.
  • The prize of B.A.G.U.E.T.T.E., Cary Huang's camp, would have been to choose a recommended character to join BFDIA, but B.A.G.U.E.T.T.E. was cancelled and replaced with Ten Words of Wisdom.
  • Of the 12 returning contestants, 5 were originally on the Squishy Cherries, and 7 were originally on the Squashy Grapes. Every member of Another Name also returns.
  • There are 11 male and 11 female contestants each in BFDIA.
    • Among the returning contestants, there are 7 females and 5 males.
    • Among the new contestants, there are 6 males and 4 females.
    • All the returning male contestants competed on Another Name except for Spongy.
  • The episode titles so far, except "Insectophobe's Nightmare 3", "Insectophobe's Nightmare 4" and "Start the Shift" are said by a character within the respective episode:
  • All five armless contestants from Season 1 (Golf Ball, Ice Cube, Rocky, Spongy, and Tennis Ball) competed in Season 2, along with Nickel, Yellow Face, and Puffball for a total of 8 armless contestants.
    • It would be nine if one also counts Pin after losing her limbs.
  • This season used to have the longest episode, "Get in the Van", at 17 minutes, until it was surpassed in 2017 by "Getting Teardrop to Talk", at 28 minutes.
    • The record has been broken multiple times since then, with the longest episode currently being "Seasonal Shift", at 43 minutes and 17 seconds.
      • However, if all of BFDIA 5 is counted as 1 episode, then it has remained the longest episode since the release of "The Long-lost Yoyle City", at 48 minutes and 26 seconds.
  • This is the first season where the teams are uneven before they face any eliminations. TPOT became the second when Teardrop joined in "The Worst Day of Black Hole's Life" as a team made up of her alone.
  • This is the only season that allows the contestants to switch teams freely every episode.
  • This is the first season in which not every episode releases on the 1st of the month.
  • Golf Ball was originally not going to be in BFDIA, as she did not receive enough votes, but she was chosen to join by InternPony707.
    • Book, Yellow Face, and Puffball also did not receive enough votes, but were allowed to join due to the absence of Leafy, Bubble, and Flower.
    • She is the only original female who did not receive enough votes to join.
    • Gelatin was not up for voting but was chosen to join by DeGrassiFan.
  • Pin, Needle, Golf Ball, Coiny, Tennis Ball, and Pencil all made it farther than they did in BFDI.
  • This is the first and so far only season to have the first eliminated contestant to be male (Donut). In BFDI, Flower was the first to be eliminated, BFB had Pencil eliminated first, and TPOT had Pie eliminated first.
  • Between PointyPointyPointy ♫ and Respect to the Wicked, BFDIA had the highest concurring host count at 42.
    • Overall, the season has 46 hosts. (47 if the Announcer is included, as he was not hosting onscreen.)
  • BFDIA remains as the only season where every single elimination is decided by the viewers.
    • In BFDI, Teardrop and Golf Ball were eliminated despite not getting the most votes and Tennis Ball and Ice Cube were voted out by the contestants.
    • In BFB, 40 contestants quit the season and Profily was eliminated by Four's choice.
    • In TPOT, Teardrop was instantly eliminated.
  • Just like Season 1, BFDIA has a secret message found by taking every spoken word that corresponds with each episode number in numerical order.
  • Michael released the BFDIA files as a response to braveman30's question about when the BFDIA and IDFB files will be released.[9]
  • Dora is the only contestant who didn't die in this season.
  • This is the first season in which Bubble is not the first contestant to die. In this case, Yellow Face was the first to die.
  • This is the only season that allowed a select number of recommended characters to appear at a time, being 25.
  • Due to "Return of the Hang Glider" having less than 1,000 votes, this season was originally not going to be produced, but it was produced anyway due to their "King of the Web" campaign reaching over 10,000 votes.[10]
  • This is the first and only season where Rocky's team didn't place 2nd in the first contest.
  • Initially, the official reason for BFDIA's cancellation is because of the termination of jacknjellify's AdSense account.
    • Multiple reasons have been given for the show's cancellation in canon:
      • In "Welcome Back", it's revealed that Ruby forgot to remove the lens cap on FreeSmart's camera, therefore no one saw anything that happened between "The Long-lost Yoyle City" and "Welcome Back".
      • In "SOS (Save Our Show)", it's revealed that Announcer didn't have any more savings to keep the show running, resulting in the show ending production. Firey Speaker Box continued the season after Announcer left in "Well Rested", however it was never officially broadcast.[11]
  • A QnA with Sam Thornbury confirmed that all future episodes of BFDIA would lead to "Welcome Back".
  • This is currently the only season of BFDI to not have anyone picked last, as everyone was switching sides and making up new teams.
  • This is the only season Golf Ball and Tennis Ball competed in where they weren't on a team that starts with the letter A.
  • This season and TPOT are the only seasons to see Needle and Coiny die onscreen.
  • This is the only season that Spongy competes in where he doesn't rejoin and isn't the highest ranking armless contestant.
  • This is the first season where Donut, Gelatin, Puffball, and Yellow Face have died.
  • In the 2023 revival, multiple character's voice actors are different from their original ones from 2013.
  • According to Sam Thornbury, BFDIA will follow the same production format as TPOT, which an episode of each season would both be released around 2 months or so.
  • BFDIA by far has the longest gap between two episodes of the same season, with 10 years between the release of "The Long-lost Yoyle City" and "Well Rested", breaking the previous gap of 1 year between the release of "You Know Those Buttons Don't Do Anything, Right?" and "The Worst Day of Black Hole's Life".
  • BFDIA is one of the two seasons to have the cast permanently relocate to a new location in the middle of the season. The other season is BFB.
  • Donut, Dora, Match, and Puffball are the only contestants who haven't officially switched teams.
  • BFDIA is one of the two seasons to have multiple elimination areas, being the TLC/LOL and the Weak Trembling Fortress. The other is BFB.
  • BFDIA is one of the 2 seasons to be split into 2 parts, the other being BFB.
  • BFDIA finishing will more than likely cause some inconsistencies based on future seasons:
    • In "Chapter Complete", Spongy says he's been eliminated four times. This is not true as he was eliminated in "Lots of Mud".
      • Although, since Spongy's elimination in "The Escape from Four" was a failure, one could argue he did not count that elimination.
  • After the release of "Well Rested", BFDIA was split into 2 parts. Season 2a takes place from "Yeah, Who? I Wanna Know" to "The Long-lost Yoyle City", and Season 2b starts with "Well Rested".
  • As of "Start the Shift," the only competition episode to not feature any team switching or any new teams being formed is "Meaty,"
  • Nickel is the only contestant who consistently appears on every second voting screen in this season, and the only contestant to have such pattern ever.
  • As of "Start the Shift" if there are no rejoins, debuts, or non-competition episodes, there will only be 5 more episodes of the season.
  • Out of every season, BFDIA is the season with the most teams, which is 13 (including temporary ones).
    • There is a chance that TPOT could beat that amount.
      • BFDI has 3 (12 if you count temporary teams).
      • IDFB has 0
      • BFB has 11.
      • TPOT has 11.
