"They turned off the Bat-Signal as the Sun set over Gotham City. A much quieter Gotham City. Down on the streets, music played, people laughed, life went on. And overhead, the gargoyles watched silently from the Old Gotham Cathedral. Long ago, it was believed that gargoyles could protect a place from evil. One of the gargoyles moved. It was the Batman."

Backcover
  • Batman when held at gunpoint by the police at Axis Chemicals, raises his hands as if to surrender, but then throws two smoke capsules against the cops to be able to "fly" away. This alternate moment is also present in the comic adaptation.
  • The deleted horse-riding scene at Wayne Manor with Bruce and Vicki (which the originally-cast Vicki Sean Young injured herself preparing for) is in the novelization.
  • It is revealed that both the Joker and Alicia were skilled at vocal impersonations. Joker, imitating Bruce's voice, called Vicki and invited her to lunch at Flugelheim's café; then Alicia, pretending to be Vicki, called Alfred and told him she had accepted Bruce's invitation.
  • It is revealed when Batman enters the Cathedral at story's end that he fights not to faint, and fades in and out of the present, thinking back on his parents' murders.
  • Joker laughs madly when he falls from the helicopter instead of screaming.
