Like Volume 1, it contains&nbsp;songs from&nbsp;the [[Barney & Friends|TV series]], but it also has songs from ''[[Barney Live! In New York City]]'' and ''[[Imagination Island (video)|Imagination Island]]''. It was released on August 23, 1994 through EMI Records.

In the same year as the album was released, the album commercially entered at number sixty-six on the ''Billboard'' 200 thus becoming Barney's second album to hit that chart.<ref>[https://www.billboard.com/music/barney/chart-history/billboard-200/# Barney Billboard 200 Chart History]</ref> Vol. 2 would later peak at #11 on Billboard's Top Kid's Albums on February 3, 1996.<ref>[https://www.billboard.com/music/barney/chart-history/kids-albums/# Barney Kid Albums Chart History]</ref>

Following the release of ''Barney's Favorites, Vol. 2'' a Spanish equivalent, titled ''[[Las Canciones de Barney 2]]'', was released in 1997, and a German equivalent titled ''[[Barney's Insel der Fantasien]]'' in 1999, however not all the songs are the same from the English counterpart.

*The album cover art of the dinosaurs is also featured as the cover of the ''[[Imagination Island (book)|Imagination Island]]'' book adaptation. The artwork used on the book and this album features a cartoon inspired redesign of the dinosaurs that's featured on the cover for ''[[Let's Pretend with Barney (1994)|Let's Pretend with Barney]]''. 
*While some songs from the album are taken from ''[[Imagination Island (video)|Imagination Island]]'', some were also omitted, including "[[That's What an Island Is]]", which was specifically omitted due to [[Martha Datema Lipscomb]], a producer for the album, disliking the song. 
*Due to a [[Barney Lawsuits#Barney.27s I Love You Song|lawsuit]] over the song in 1994, "[[I Love You (song)|I Love You]]" wasn't included on this album, however, it was included in Spanish and German equivalent of this album that was released after the lawsuit being settled.
