This is the Watcher's Keep - Obelisk area of the Watcher's Keep Teleport Maze. This area is available during Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition saga, as early as Chapter 2. It is also available as part of the Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal campaign if playing the original or Enhanced Edition game.
Area description[]
The party transition into this new area through a portal gate that is at the northern side of this area. A short hallway connects with a circular chamber.
There are similar short hallways at the east, south and west bearings as well, all with mounted portals leading somewhere.
Dead center of the circular chamber is a stone obelisk on a pedestal. The party can see expertly crafted chiseled runes and writings on each facet.
Hovering the player's cursor over it displays a text, reading:
- These are runes of warding. They speak of the "Imprisoned One" and are sealed with Helm's symbol.
Resting on this dungeon level[]
There is a random probability of being disturbed by infernal fiends if resting here. "You are awakened from your rest" will be shown on the combat log, and the enemies can include a Maurezhi, Alu-Fiend and Erinyes group.

Gameplay[]
The party emerges from the portal at the northern side of this area. A short hallway connects with a circular chamber.
Inside this chamber is a central obelisk, and standing nearby are two oddly colored Glaberzu demons - one red and the other blue.
These demons are hostile and don't say anything. They are gesturing and the energy field of conjuration magic is visible around them.
After a few seconds, a Greater Fire Elemental is summoned by the red demon, and an Ice Salamander from the blue one. The Elementals will move to attack the closest party member they can detect.
A short time later the area around the demons fills with infernal smoke and brimstone. Note that the smoke/fire visual effects are not actually damaging or disabling, just cosmetic. They can be removed with Zone of Sweet Air.
It will be difficult to see clearly through this smoke and flame, yet the demons appear to be summoning more creatures.
The next round another elemental and salamander are added to the room.
The only way to stop this process is to destroy the demons. The quicker the better, to limit the ever-expanding army of summoned hostile creatures.
Once a demon has summoned five creatures, its AI actions change, and the creature becomes aggressive and can move towards enemies, engage in melee combat and cast some other spells.

The Sword Coast Stratagems mod with the "Improved Watcher's Keep" component makes a revision to this area. The two spellcasting glabrezu gain four brethren. Things can get crazy very quickly with this mod component. This encounter is hectic, crowded, frantic and in a challenging way, fun.
