Ettins are lumbering, neanderthal-looking, giant humanoids that possess two heads, but are slow of wit and have very little common sense. They are about half the size of a Fire Giant and have almost the same amount of health (96 HP). They wear no armor and their only weapon is a single club.
Locations[]
Umar Hills[]
Two ettins are encountered while protecting the Umar Hills from invasion during the paladin stronghold quest and they each drop 100 upon death.
Underwater City[]
A single ettin is battled upon reaching the Underwater City at the end of Chapter 4, if the party chooses to accept Saemon Havarians offer of attempting to sail back to Athkatla from the island of Brynnlaw instead of accessing the entrance to the Underdark from Spellhold. This fellow drops no treasure upon death.
Wild Forest[]
A single ettin is found in the northwest area of the Wild Forest, along with a Gnoll Captain and two Gnoll Elites. However, this creature is actually an illusion conjured up by Neera and her Hidden Refuge folks as a method of scaring away enemies that might threaten the Refuge.
It will appear to attack the gnolls and then vanish. The gnolls will then turn hostile and attack the party.
Bugs[]
- Baldur's Gate II:
Shadows of Amn (2000)
This icon indicates content from the original Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn campaign. Rather than putting Ettins into the giant humanoids' category of creatures and making them males, they count as simple monsters of neither sex. This is fixed in the Enhanced Edition.
