Molly is a minor character who is mentioned in notes throughout FAITH: The Unholy Trinity.

She is the ex-wife of John Ward.

Biography[]

Before September 21st, 1986[]

Before John became a priest, he and Molly met each other. It’s implied that they lived together due to a double bed being in John’s bedroom. The exact nature of their relationship is not outwardly stated, but they appeared to have a loving relationship.

September 21st, 1986[]

On this day, Father Allred and John drive to the Martin House due to reports of the Martins' daughter, Amy, being possessed. During the exorcism, Amy breaks loose and kills Father Allred and her own parents. John is able to escape the house alive and be taken in by the police and an ambulance outside.

September 22nd, 1986[]

Seeing the aftermath of the failed exorcism, the police initially believe John to be the one responsible. Due to both him and Amy being mentally unstable, they are admitted to Yale Psychiatric Institute while the case is pending. John's care was supervised by Dr. Spinel around this time, who begins using an in-vivo approach of combating his anxiety, attempting to convince him that what happened in the Martin House was not supernatural.

Between September 22nd - October 31st, 1986[]

During this timeframe, the Catholic Church would denounce John as a priest, likely not wanting to be associated with his pending murder charges, or the fact that he had been sent to a psych ward.

Amy would eventually be found guilty of the murder of her parents and Father Allred. She would remain in the psych ward for almost a year, while John's name would be cleared. The Catholic Church, however, would not fall back on their decision.

October 31st, 1986[]

With clearance from Dr. McGlashan, Dr. Spinel would release John from his care, noting that he had been successful with his counseling sessions and believing he can safely reenter society. John would return home to Molly, where the two would get married shortly after[1]. John would retain his priest outfit and cross.

September 12th, 1987[]

Almost a year had passed since John was released, and it seems like him and Molly were able to live well. However, on this day, Amy would escape from the institution. The news of her escape is made public, with the Sterling Police Department trying to track her down.

Between September 12th - 21st, 1987[]

John begins experiencing dreams where Amy would reach out to him, needing him to return to the Martin House on the anniversary of the failed exorcism to rescue her.

September 21st, 1987[]

John puts on his old outfit and prepares to return to the Martin House. Before leaving, he writes a note to Molly outlining the true story of what happened there last year, believing that the Catholic Church will give her a different story in the event he does not return. He writes that the news article written about the incident is not true, that Amy had strangled her parents with their intestines, killed Father Allred with her hands, and cut the power to the house. He writes that the nightmares he had been having are real, and that he must return to the house and save Amy.

John drives to the Martin House to try and finish what he started. During the second exorcism attempt, Amy throws herself from the attic window and retreats into the forest outside. Upon returning home, tension between John and Molly starts to build up. She believes that John is becoming delusional again - that his treatment at the institution did not fully stop him from believing that paranormal occurrences happened at that house. She's very concerned about him, but does not believe she can help him with his predicament this time.

September 28th, 1987[]

At this point, Molly is no longer able to stand John in his current state. As he experiences his worst nightmare yet, Molly writes a note for him, saying that she can't do this anymore and that she'll always love him back, and leaves him. When John wakes up, he finds the letter Molly left behind.

October 28th, 1987[]

A month later, John still retains this same departing letter on his person. No mention of her is made for the rest of the game.

Trivia[]

  • Molly was originally named Karen. When The Unholy Trinity was released, her name was changed due to Airdorf stating that he did not want players to associate the character with the "Karen" memes.
    • There was originally an error in which the note from her in Chapter III still read as "Karen". This was corrected in the 1.1 update.
  • John and Molly's marital status is never explicitly referenced in the game. The only evidence for this is Airdorf's confirmation of it on social media[1].
