Embroidered Feathered Creatures That Look Like Drawings

Jennifer McBrien is a Baltimore based artist who creates these beautiful bird portraits by free hand stitching on a sewing machine. All the birds are based on her original designs and patterns. The series of bird portraits are stitched in black on heavy duty cotton canvas fabric with dark thread which makes every stitch amplify. You can clearly see the overlap of the thread that brings wonderful texture to her work. The birds look like drawings that are made with a pencil.

"On numerous days, I walk to my studio in Baltimore, MD through a treasured wooded pathway, listening to the bird stories and surrounding urban sounds. These sweet sounds and thoughts are the inspirations for my daily creations..."

She will be exhibiting her work in the upcoming events on 26th August and 9th September among other shows in other major cities in the US. You can find more information on the events on her website. Romantic Portraits Hand-Painted Wooden Necklaces

Happy August! I hope you are having a great year so far. While writing this post, I realized more than half of the year is gone by. It's only four months more before we enter the new year. Isn't it crazy how fast time flies!

Back to the post. I love bold, colorful art! It's a cherry on the top if one can wear it like these hand-painted pendants by Patrizia Nigro. Her work is a unique combination of beautiful illustrations that have a vintage feel to them. The wooden pendants are cut in various shapes and hand-painted with female portraits who are framed with floral, feathers and can be seen with their companion animals. You can find her one-of-kind pendants in her online store - Alma Patrice.

Realistic Paintings of Animals and Kids Walking the Streets Together

Kevin Peterson is an artist based in Houston, Texas who paints these hyper realistic paintings where fearless kids are exploring the decaying cities with the animal companions. The recurring themes of his work is innocent children accompanied by wild animals such as owls, bears, lions and foxes with a backdrop of abandoned and disintegrating buildings.

Through his work he is explaining the journey of life that we all take. "My work is about the varied journeys we take through life. It’s about growing up and living in a world that is broken. These paintings are about trauma, fear and loneliness and the strength that it takes to survive and thrive. They each contain the contrast of the untainted, young and innocent against a backdrop of a worn, ragged, and defiled world. Support versus restraint, bondage versus freedom, and tension versus slack are all themes that I often visit. My work deals with isolation, loneliness and longing teamed with a level of optimistic hope. Issues of race and the division of wealth have arisen in my recent work. This work deals with the idea of rigid boundaries, the hopeful breakdown of such restrictions, as well as questions about the forces that orchestrate our behavior."

More of his work can be viewed on his website and to watch him work behind the scenes visit his Instagram.
