Happy Friday, friends! I shall leave you for the weekend with the whimsical illustrations by Marjorie Liucci an artist from Florida. The woodland series is a collection of animal prints based on her original illustrations. There are lot of beautiful patterns and folk inspired designs in her work. These gorgeous manhole covers proves that art really has no boundaries. In 1980, Japan started to modernize sewage infrastructure and the cities were presented with an opportunity to decorate manholes. The manhole covers can display anything from municipal symbols, local landscapes, abstract patterns, and illustrations of birds and owls. Today there are about 6000 artistic manhole covers throughout Japan.

Taking pictures and documenting these colorful manhole covers has become a pass-time for locals and travelers so much so that photographer Remo Camerota has published an award-winning book titled Drainspotting showcasing the highly decorative manhole covers. There is this group on Flickr where you can see over 4000 photos of manhole covers from Japan.

Japanese Artist Embroiders Kawaii Animals









Kimika Hara is an embroider who is born and lives in Kyoto, Japan. Her series of embroidered animals are made without any patterns or templates on solid colored background using bright threads, acrylic paints and beads. I am in love with the intricacy in her work and the designs that make her embroidered pieces stand out. 

She participates in events such as an International Art Event Design Festa and Creators' Market. She also showcases her work in group as well as solo exhibitions mainly in Kansai.

Dirty Cars Turned Into Art Using Fingers














Moscow based artist and illustrator Nikita Golubev also known as Pro Boy Nick uses dirty surfaces of vehicles to draw animal images with his fingers. To make each image he would use a brush to wipe the dust to create a clean spot or use his fingers to etch the images on the side of a trailer truck or a car. Recycled Drum Lids Turned into Lights








I came across these LED wall lights by Wind & Weather while looking for a light option for a small outdoor seating area in my house and loved them at the very first glance! The series of 3D wall art is handcrafted from recycled metal drum lids. The beautiful designs are hand punched and painted in bright colors which almost looks like a painting.
