Tigress is a name used by three different supervillains in the DC Comics universe. The first Tigress was a unnamed thief and spy who became a foe of Zatara during the Golden Age.
The second Tigress was Paula Brooks, who adopted a crossbow-wielding costume to get close to her idol, the All-Star Squadron's Manhunter. During World War II, she joined the Young All-Stars and became struck down in battle with Axis Amerika. She was later revived as a changed woman, becoming the villain known as Huntress. She partnered with Sportsmaster, the couple later having a daughter named Artemis Crock, who inherited the Tigress mantle in adulthood and married the supervillain Icicle Jr. Crock is also a member of the Injustice Society, the Injustice Unlimited, and the Terror Titans.
History[]
Paula Brooks[]
Paula Brooks was a thief who resented the way that criminals were hunted by the law and who decided to chase down the enforcers of the law herself. Acording to the Who's Who: Update '87 #1, Paula's mother was the original Tigress, a foe of Zatara. However, this was corrected in Who's Who: Update '87 #5. As the Tigress, Paula used a bow and arrows as her principal weapons.
Originally, Paula idolized famous big-gane hunter Paul Kirk aka Manhunter, and trained herselt in archery and jujitsu throughout her teenage years so that she could follow In Kirk's footsteps. When her training was complete, Paula adopted a costume and mask, armed herself wth a customizod "crossbow-gun" and began shadowing the Young All-Stars as the new Tigress, in hopes that they could lead her to Kirk. Tigress stowed away wth the Young AIl-Stars and Manhunter during a mission to Jamaica. At first, the heroes resented her presence; however, ater helping them defeat Baron Blitzkrieg, she was admitted to the team under a trial period.
Tigrass has since proven a member in good standing; nevertheless, at some later point in the early 1940s, she left her crimefighting days behind her to become the crimnal known as the Huntress. Eventually, Brooks captured the masked crimefighter Wildcat and imprisoned him in her private zoo. She then captured the mayor, district attorney, and police chief of New York City and set them loose in her "private hunting grounds" in order to track them down and kill them. However, Wildcat escaped and thwarted her scheme.

~ Paula Brooks to the new Huntress |
The Huntress has often tried to capture Wildcat, who she sees as "a great hunter of men", and make him "the prize exhibit" in her private zoo, but she has always failed. At one point the Huntress joined the league of criminals known as the Injustice Society. She eventually married one of its other members, "Crusher" Crock, alias the Sportsmaster. She and the Sportsmaster became a criminal team who together unsuccessfully fought Black Canary and Starman. More recently, the Huntress and Sportsmaster served for a time in a new Injustice Society. The Huntress became infuriated when a new female crimefighter, also called the Huntress, appeared. The two Huntresses fought, and the new Huntress won decisively, thereby establishing her right to the name.
Artemis Crock[]
Artemis is the daughter of "Crusher" Crock/the Sportsmaster, and his wife, the Paula Brooks/Huntress, both of whom are notorious costumed criminals who have been members of the Injustice Society. The Sportsmaster and the Huntress named their daughter Artemis after the Olympian goddess of the hunt.
Following her parents' example, Artemis became a costumed criminal, also adopting the motifs of both her parents' costumed identities. Like her father, she is a brilliant all-round athlete, and like her mother, she employs arrows as her main weapons, which Artemis fires from a crossbow. Artemis became a member of the Wizard's new version of the Injustice Society, which he renamed Injustice Unlimited. At some point, they captured the many businessmen attending a major trade conference in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The Wizard then demanded to receive considerable sums of money from his prisoners' respective companies.
The conference was under the protection of menbers of the Global Guardians and Infinity Inc., but the Injustice members forced the heroes to do their bidding by endangering Hourman and lcemaiden. So Nuklon and the Rising Sun were obliged to help Artemis free her parents from prison. Finally, members of the Global Guardians and Infinity fought back against the Injustice members. Artemis was defeated by the Infinitor Jade's newfound ally, Solomon Grundy. However, Artemis is believed to have escaped and to still be at large.
She later married Cameron Mahkent; the Icicle, and the two a child together.
