Renee Keyes is the secondary antagonist of the animated series Pantheon. She is a Logorhythms employee dedicated to replicating Holstrom's life by playing the role of Caspian Keyes' mother, and staging an abusive relationship with his "father" Cary.
She was voiced by Taylor Schilling.
Biography[]
The Caspian Project[]
Renee had an intimate relationship with Stephen Holstrom in the past. After Holstrom's supposed death, she joins Logorhythms' mission prepared by him to carry out his will through raising Caspian, a clone of Holstrom intended to solve integrity and fix a flaw in UI coding that will make an uploaded mind decay over time. To this end, she posed as Caspian's mother for his entire life, raising him alongside Cary, with whom she fakes being the subject of domestic abuse in order to replicate Holstrom's own childhood. By the time Caspian is 17, she is also in contact Rachel Brooks, who was secretly hired by the company to pose as his girlfriend "Hannah".
In one incident, Renee and Cary were meant to have argument culminating in Cary breaking her arm with a hammer, but Cary had truly grown to care for Caspian and refused to go through at the last minute. Renee took the hammer and broke her own arm, framing Cary for the act, which caused Caspian to viciously beat him up and kick him out in response. However, Caspian eventually grew suspicious of his life, and after getting Hannah to confess her role as paid actor, he tracks Cary down to learn the truth behind his existence. Renee follows and shoots Cary with a handgun for imperiling the mission, but Caspian takes him to a hospital. Later, Julius Pope makes Caspian the new CEO of Logorhythms, of which his first act is to fire his false parents from the corporation.
Uploading of Stephen Holstrom[]
In her twenties, Renee began a relationship with Holstrom and deeply cared for him, sharing his ambition to become a UI. After his death, she spent nearly two decades raising his clone, Caspian, following every directive to help cure the flaw. Almost twenty years later, Renee was thrilled to discover that Holstrom's brain had been cryogenically preserved. When he was mind-uploaded, she joyfully reunited with her former lover.
After keeping Holstrom safe from the FBI, she enthusiastically helped him access a military satellite, calling him "her love." During a drive to an Air Force base, she tried to comfort Holstrom when he grew frustrated over his clone achieving his life's goal while he couldn't. A few days after aiding in his escape, she helped him establish a Deep Scan Center, asking only to join him in the digital realm in return.
