The Public Safety Devil Hunters, otherwise known as The National Devil Extermination Public Safety Commission, are the secondary antagonists of the Chainsaw Man Part 2: Academy Saga.
They are an organization dedicated to hunting dangerous Devils. After the events of the first part of the manga, the organization has revealed itself to be more conniving than what was initially let on.
Biography[]
The Public Safety Devil Hunters stand out from the other Devil Hunters in that they are funded by the Japanese government and could be considered similar to the Police force given how they operate. The Public Safety Devil Hunters are typically called to deal with lower-scale Devil threats, but can also be tasked with tackling bigger threats to public safety.
Furthermore, there exists several branches with one division that was led by Makima prior to her death at the hands of Denji. It also included agents like Denji, a Hybrid created from the result of the Chainsaw Devil aka Pochita merging with him, or the Blood Fiend Power. The government itself, and by extension the Public Safety Devil Hunters were well aware of Makima's true nature as the Control Devil and are also guilty of committing several morally grey actions.
During the second part of the manga, Hirofumi Yoshida advises Denji to not transform into Chainsaw Man again with the threat of the Public Safety Devils killing him and the reincarnation of the Control Devil Nayuta. Whether it was because they were intending on using Denji later to avert the prophecy of Nostradamus or thought he would endanger the mission in anyway is currently unknown.
When Denji becomes Chainsaw Man again out of anger at Barem Bridge setting his apartment on fire and potentially killing his and Nayuta's pets, Yoshida drugs Denji and leaves him to be dissected by the Japanese government. As a result, Fami and Asa Mitaka stage a break in to retrieve Denji for their own motivations.
Trivia[]
- Due to the fact that the likelihood of dying is greater for Public Safety Devil Hunters, the government provides them with several benefits such as paid day offs. It is also implied that they have access to better healthcare unlike Private Devil Hunters with Makima mentioning that they had someone employed who was able to reattach limbs.
