Nicholette Gold, also known as Nikki and The Matriarch, is a major character in the 2021 video game Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
She is the adopted daughter of Ko-Rel, the Nova Corps' captain within Hala's Hope, and later a cadet-in-training for the organisation. Eventually, she was scouted by Raker, the Universal Church of Truth's leader, to become the Matriarch after Ko-Rel's death at the hands of Magus, who later brainwashed Nikki by turning her into the Matriarch.
She would be used as a means to spread the Promise and its influence across the galaxy to turn anyone into Converted, mind-controlled victims manipulated into promising them via their deepest desires, which would herald Magus' awakening and his plans to destroy the galaxy to his own ends. However, with her father figure Peter Quill's help, who destroyed her Promise-ridden fantasy, Nikki snapped out from her brainwashing, awakened her powers within the Soul Stone and joined the Guardians in stopping Magus, once and for all.
In her normal form Nikki is a female hybrid between the offspring of a Kree and an unknown race, who has black hair and blue eyes. During her time as the Church's Matriarch, her eyes glowed purple due to being brainwashed by the Promise, as well as he wearing a gold, red and black-colored Matriarch robe.
After obtaining the Soul Stone's powers at the end of the game, Nikki goes into transformation, where she now has flame-orange hair, as well as wearing a green jumpsuit with gold-colored boots.
Personality[]
Nikki is a smart but a rebellious girl, who is reputably known to be feisty during her term as a Cadet within the Nova Corps. She is also known to be insubordinate, as such she was able to hack into security to get over restricted areas, a fact that her adopted mother Ko-Rel had known.
History[]
When Nikki was an infant, her biological parents most likely died during the events of the Galactic War, leaving her as a war orphan. Nova Centurion Ko-Rel, who raised her as her own daughter and kept her actual origin a secret, protected her from certain death at the hands of the Kree Purity Council, who took race purity in a serious manner. She was a cadet with exceptional quality who renamed and reprogrammed Itz and Jocasta, both her "friends" within the ship.
Once they got to know one another, Star-Lord and Nikki started to believe they were father and daughter. They both thought Ko-Rel was Nikki's biological mother, and Nikki's age matched a passionate night Ko-Rel and Star-Lord had during the conflict, while hiding her true origins.

This is the first and only villainous incarnation of Nikki from Marvel.
Unlike the Matriarch in the original Marvel comics who is a separate entity of its own, the Matriarch in the game is a composite character to Nikki and she's not Magus' right-hand man. Rather, she's the figurehead leader of the Church and Raker is the one who calls the shots more often.
