Marcus Banks is the deuteragonist of the 2021 horror-thriller film Spiral: From the Book of Saw, the ninth installment of the Saw franchise.
He is the Chief of Police from the American city that was terrorized by the Jigsaw Killer years ago and the father of Detective Ezekiel Banks. In spite of his initial heroical deeds with trying to find the Spiral Killer and helping his son Ezekiel as a supporting deuteragonist, Marcus shows more antagonistic traits throughout his role almost earlier before the events of the film.
He was portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson, who also played Gator Purify in Jungle Fever, Greg Meeker in White Sands, Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction, Carl Lee Hailey in A Time to Kill, Ordell Robbie in Jackie Brown, Elijah Price in Unbreakable and Glass, John Mills in Twisted, Frank Tenpenny in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Derrick Vann in The Man, Roland Cox in Jumper, Officer Abel Turner in Lakeview Terrace, Octopus in The Spirit, Stephen in Django Unchained, Chaney in Oldboy, Richmond Valentine in Kingsman: The Secret Service, Mr. Barron in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and Preston Packard in Kong: Skull Island.

Earlier Life[]
He was a Policeman like Ezekiel. And the crimes were difficult to fight. He decided to have his son join in Ezekiel Banks and in a flashback he asks for back up and Fitch who was the closest doesn't care which results to Ezekiel being shot. Marcus Banks the head leader of the Police Task Forces has a meeting with the Police Officers trying to find out who was responsible for not listening to Ezekiel's request for back up beating up Fitch in the process. A little bit later, Fitch and Ezekiel are on a mission and work together to talk to a witness Charlie Emmerson who is the father of a younger William Schneck who Fitch gunned down and Fitch said to Ezekiel that the the witness pulled a gun on him which Ezekiel questioned. Through some off-screen events Ezekiel at some point didn't buy what Fitch said and reported him thus causing Fitch to lose his job. This doesn't anger Fitch as much as it would for Marcus Banks where he beats a journalist sadistically taunting him after slamming the door towards his face.
Present Life[]
He is somewhat determined and helps with at least trying to pay the rent for Ezekiel's house. And Marcus Banks eventually looks for the Spiral Killer and eventually gets kidnapped by non other than The Spiral Killer himself. He ends up being put to a to a final test as well as Ezekiel Bank.
Ezekiel finds a blood drained Marcus Bank put on strings attached to him with Spiral shaped targets. The revealed Spiral Killer orders Ezekiel to pick two options to arrest William the revealed Spiral Killer or try to save Marcus' life and have William run away. Ezekiel tries to shoot one of the targets and then try to stop William. Later, the SWAT Team gets through the Liar as Marcus is tired and he tries to tell the SWAT Team not to enter. Eventually they do enter and Ezekiel tries to warn the others not to go and they eventually do so anyways. Eventually he is pulled up and it looks to the SWAT Team like his about to open fire which leads to him getting brutally killed leading putting Ezekiel though despair. William eventually escapes and Ezekiel shouts no.
