I told you, I've got no money. Business isn't going so well.
~ Factory Owner lying to Ali just before hiding an envelope containing money.

The Factory Owner is a minor antagonist in Season 1 of the South Korean Netflix series Squid Game. He is an unfair boss to his workers, including Ali Abdul, and never pays them even after months of hard work. He is also the reason why Ali is forced to play Squid Game in order to support his family and his newborn son.

He was portrayed by Kim Seo-ha.

Biography[]

The Factory Owner was first seen in "Hell" inside a metalworking factory where several migrant workers are seen manufacturing metals. While playing solitaire in his office, he was confronted by Ali Abdul regarding his salary and the lack of his worker's compensation after Ali missed his fingers in a workplace accident. The Boss then lies to Ali that the company is not receiving profits and that he has no money to pay anyone's salary, dismissing Ali, yet he has an envelope containing substantial amount of money next to him. He slips the envelope into his pocket and walks out the office, but Ali notices it and runs after him. Ali confronts his boss demanding his pay and tries to grab the envelope by force. The two engage in a physical confrontation.

During their fight, the Boss is pushed back and crushes his fingers in a rolling machine, dropping the envelope containing money inside. While a worker rushes to help the boss, Ali grabs the bloodied envelope and runs off from the factory workplace and deliver it to his wife and son in order to return back to Pakistan without him. The Factory Boss owner was never seen again since.

Personality[]

The Factory Owner seems to be abusive and greedy, lying about the money and making Ali and the others work hard in his factory with no pay at all. He also doesn't show regard for Ali's workplace injuries after Ali lost his fingers in an accident.

Relationships[]

  • Unnamed migrant workers
  • Ali Abdul - Employee and Enemy †
