~ The Exploiter Orb during her battle with the Tenno. |
The Exploiter Orb is a minor antagonist in the MMO third person shooter Warframe, serving as the main antagonist of the Buried Debts event.
She is one of the three Orb Mothers, massive Corpus Raknoid proxies incorporating Sentient technology, produced by Nef Anyo and deployed to crush the first incarnation of the Solaris United resistance.
She is voiced by Rachel Sellers.
Appearance[]
The Exploiter Orb is a four-legged mechanical spider as large as a house with a blue-colored carapace containing a mortar cannon. A turret equipped with a machine gun and a flamethrower is mounted on her belly and two small arms are connected to her proportionally small head.
Personality[]
Whereas most Corpus proxies are merely programmed to fulfill their purpose and possess little to no individual intelligence, the Sentient technology used to construct the Exploiter gives her a degree of sentience beyond a mere machine. The Exploiter Orb possesses the attitude of a stern teacher, regarding Solaris United as a menace to the discipline and order imposed by Nef Anyo's rule and considers herself to be an exemplar of efficiency.
She addresses and considers the smaller Raknoid proxies under her command as her children and becomes suitably enraged when they are destroyed. Her rage at this disrespect is so great that she even ditches her fight with the Tenno in favor of punishing Solaris United by burning down Fortuna, despite this clearly going against Nef Anyo's interests, though she quickly and quite literally cools herself down to recompose herself and address the threat at hand.
Biography[]
Deck 12[]
Years before the time the game takes place, a woman by the name of Eudico gathered volunteers from her home Fortuna to fight back against the tyranny of the narcissistic Corpus aristocrat Nef Anyo, forming an undercover resistance group known as Solaris United. Using the alias Vox Solaris, Eudico and her fellow rebels sabotaged several Nef Anyo's operations, quickly earning his ire and attention. To weaken his hold over Fortuna, Solaris United planned to destroy one of three Orb Mothers Anyo had built to inspire fear and obedience in his debt-slaves. The members Rude Zuud and her sisters created a machine that could condense the magma-like substance obtained by diluting the coolant flowing through the snowy landscape above Fortuna into canisters usable as weapons agains the towering machine.
Before they could make use of the machine however Nef discovered their base of operations in Deck 12 and sent the Exploiter Orb, the very same Orb Mother they were planning to destroy, to wipe out the resistance. It was a massacre that only a handful of members managed to escape, that being Eudico herself, her right hand The Business, an agent called Little Duck and Rude Zuud, who had to watch as the Exploiter Orb cornered and burned her sisters alive.
The loss of so many people, friends and family crushed the people of Fortuna and traumatized Eudico to the point that she retired the Vox persona and submitted to Nef Anyo's rule, blaming herself for what happened and focusing her efforts on preventing people from falling under Anyo's wrath. Deck 12 effectively ended the first iteration of Solaris United and ensured Anyo's dominance over Fortuna for years to come.
Buried Debts[]
Years later Anyo still ruled with an iron fist, but his negligence eventually threatened the entire Orb Vallis. His ceaseless and careless excavation and drilling projects caused the coolant flowing through the Vallis to become unstable, cracking the ground and bursting out onto the surface. If not dealt with quickly, the fractures would eventually irreparably damage the Vallis and kill everyone living in it, the citizens of Fortuna included. Anyo did not listen to their warnings and simply sent out the Exploiter Orb with some Coolant Raknoids to collect whatever thermia they come across to make a quick profit rather than deal with the problem.
A resurfaced Solaris United asked the Tenno for aid in saving the Vallis. To close the fractures, the Tenno travelled to the Exploiter Orb as she patrolled around the Temple of Profit, Anyo's skyscraper-sized statue to himself, and destroyed the Coolant Raknoids following her to get hold of their refined coolant canisters. Using these canisters, they sealed the fractures one by one as Anyo's forces tried to reclaim what was stolen. But while the Tenno were out protecting the Vallis, they discovered the presence of small data-hashes scattered around the landscape containing pieces of a code. Eudico asked Rude Zuud to take a look at them, who to her horror quickly realized what the code was about as more pieces were found.
The code was a passphrase that opened the doors to a graveyard, the source of many Solaris' nightmares: Deck 12. When the Tenno ventured to Deck 12 in spite of Zuud's protests and used the diluted thermia obtained by closing the fractures, the old machines once again sprung to life, quickly getting the attention of the Exploiter Orb. Realizing that this was an honest shot at getting revenge for the deaths of her sisters, Zuud instructed the Tenno on how to use the machine to harm the Orb Mother. While her armor was too thick for any weapon to penetrate, her exhaust vents that keep her from overheating could be rendered vulnerable by throwing the canisters at them.
With her four vents and many of her Raknoid children destroyed, the Exploiter Orb left Deck 12 in a furious rage, intent to teach Fortuna a lesson for their insolence by burning it to the ground. The Tenno chased after her out onto the icy plains above, where she summoned a swarm of Coolant Raknoids to help cool herself off and switched her attention back to the Tenno pursuing her. By taking the canisters from the Coolant Raknoids, sealing the fractures the Exploiter Orb opened during the fight and then throwing the resulting diluted thermia at her, the Tenno caused the Exploiter to overheat again and again.
They used these opportunites to break off weakened parts of her armor, opening weakspots for them to hit until finally ripping off her head. At last the Exploiter Orb collapsed onto the ground, self-destructing shortly after likely to both take her victors with her and prevent them from salvaging the technology used to build her. With her sisters avenged, Rude Zuud and the rest of Solaris United finally gained some closure from the lives lost so long ago.

Trivia[]
- The climactic battle against the Exploiter Orb is widely considered to be the best boss fight in Warframe for its sheer scale, lore-involvement, cinematic cutscenes upon exposing weakpoints and the fun and unique method required to defeat it.
- The Exploiter Orb's destruction of Deck 12 would eventually lead to Cutter, the son of two Solaris United members she killed and whose debts he then inhabited, becoming bitter towards Vox and the resistance. His bitterness turned him into a turncoat spy for Nef Anyo and culminated in him releasing the Glassmaker upon the Origin System.
