Yaaaahahaha!!! In the shadow of death valley, you shall fear the apostle of darkness! I'll kill you, Batter!
~ Enoch when The Batter attempts to flee.
Ah... pant... ah... pant... Pathetic whippersnapper! Cold water eel! I had to drag my body filled to the brim with fat substances through the pipes of my own domain... It was difficult and humiliating, but... I'll devour your hopes for survival like a little sugar cube. ...with relish! Pant...
~ Enoch intercepting The Batter.

Enoch is one of the three secondary antagonists and the third Guardian that The Batter must face in OFF. Unlike the two previous guardians, Enoch does not physically interact with his subjects, instead opting to command them through propaganda while he remains comfortable within his office.

Biography[]

Past[]

Before the events of the game, Enoch was saved by Hugo from a massive pit that he got stuck in and promised to bake cakes for him as a sign of appreciation. Enoch was a great friend of Hugo until he, along with his fellow Guardians, Dedan and Japhet, were assigned their Zones by the Queen. One day, Enoch found out the fact that the Spectres that were haunting every Zone were the ghosts of dead people. Enoch also figured out that sugar can be created by burning the corpses of dead Elsen, which in turn produces more Spectres.

Using this to his advantage, Enoch used the sugar created from the corpses of Elsen and fed it to the remaining Elsen population on his Zone. The Elsen quickly got addicted to the substance, and they had all unknowingly become cannibals. Enoch then posted propaganda around his Zone, telling the Elsen to befriend or ignore the Spectres, leading to the Elsen getting killed by the wrathful ghosts, which increased the amount of corpses Enoch could use for sugar production.

Enoch used sugar to keep the Elsen in line, paying them small rations of it. Presumably disgusted by the drug empire Enoch had created, the Queen had sent assassins after him, although they were dispatched either by the insane Elsen or by Enoch himself.

OFF[]

The Batter does not meet Enoch until the very end of Zone 3, although his presence could be felt throughout Zone 3 through the propaganda he has plastered on the wall. The Batter even witnesses an Elsen fall victim to the propaganda and believe that the Spectres were friendly, which lead to them getting murdered before the Batters very eyes.

The Batter personally confronts Enoch in his office, calling Enoch out on his horrible actions and telling him he has come to make Enoch atone for his sins. Enoch refuses to stop sugar production, and even believes the Batter was another assassin sent after him by the Queen. Enoch then reveals that the Spectres were actually the ghosts of dead people, catching the Batter off guard. Enoch believes the Spectres being ghosts was logical, and states that he and his fellow Guardians are a little like gods, pulling the infinite power of the Queen, the "sun", to create their Zones. Angered by Enoch seeing himself as a god and refusing to stop his production of the vile sugar, Batter calls Enoch a "demented child of evil", and threatens to stop Enoch by force. Enoch laughs at the Batters threat and tells the Batter to fear him as the "menacing shadow of your imminent extinction".

The Batter proves incapable of inflicting a dent on Enoch. The Batter then decides he must find another way to stop Enoch before retreating. Enoch chases after the Batter, shouting that he will kill him. This continues until the Batter enters a corridor too small for Enoch to enter. Enoch refuses to allow his challenger to live, and starts climbing through the sugar pipes to intercept the Batter before he can escape.

Before the Batter can enter the Monorail and escape, Enoch successfully intercepts the Batter. However, Enoch, is his rage, had weakened himself by desperately trying to catch the Batter, something which the Batter notices, and says that defeating Enoch is now within his grasp. Enoch asks the Batter to contemplate the absurdity of the situation they're in. Nonetheless, Enoch remains confident that even in his weakened and tired state, the Batter is still a pest he can crush in no time.

Enoch is eventually defeated, and his bloody head falls off his body onto the floor. Enoch, although his head had been decapitated, continues to speak. Enoch muses over how the hero has destroyed the beast. Enoch then questions Batter if he knows what he had just done by killing him, and says that with Enoch dead, Zone 3 will disappear into the nothingness, and all the people in Zone 3, whether they deserved it or not, will disappear with it. The Batter refuses to answer Enoch's question, instead simply stating that Enoch has been defeated and that Zone 3 is now pure. A blinding white light encompasses Zone 3.

In the Room, Batter meets a character named "The Big Mister", who has found himself stuck in a hole. The Big Mister begs the Batter to save him, and promises to bake the Batter cakes as repayment. After giving the Bird the orchid book, the Batter gets the Bird to summon a flock of birds to help the Big Mister get out of the hole. The Big Mister says he'll make those cakes he promised earlier. In the house, the Big Mister stands alongside the Tall Mister and the Bird, where the Big Mister says he must get going to his Zone alongside the Tall Mister and the Bird, revealing that the Big Mister was actually a manifestation of Enoch before he became a Guardian.

Appearance[]

Enoch is an enormous fat man, with a bald head and rosy cheeks. He wears a white collared long-sleeved shirt with black dress pants and a black tie. Despite his appearance, Mortis Ghost has stated that Enoch is human.

Personality[]

Enoch is cold and manipulative, spreading propaganda to get Elsen killed to feed his monstrous machine and is unaffected by the countless deaths he has caused. Despite knowing the fact that killing the Elsen creates more Spectres, Enoch continues to use Elsen corpses to produce more addictive sugar to feed to the remaining Elsen in his Zone. Enoch is also distant, as he refuses to see his Elsen subjects physically and only interacts with them through his posters and propaganda.

Enoch is also quite arrogant, referring to his fellow Guardians and himself as gods, which is the opposite of Japhet's views, and refusing to believe that the Batter has any chance of defeating him. Deep down though, it appears Enoch himself is aware of the monster and beast he has become, even musing over it when he is defeated by the Batter. Enoch shows some remorse for his actions by saying that everyone in Zone 3 will disappear, even if they didn't deserve it.

Before becoming Guardian, Enoch was quite jolly and promised to bake the Batter (who is supposed to represent Hugo) cakes for saving him and sweared to drown him in a "ocean of sweets".

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Reality Warping: As a Guardian, Enoch was given the power to create a Zone and the authority to rule over it by the Queen and Hugo. His life force prevents the Zone from being "purified", keeping all of its inhabitants alive.
  • Baking: Enoch has stated that he knows how to bake cakes. After being saved by Hugo, he promised to make a cake for him as repayment.
  • Immense size: Enoch is the tallest being ever seen in OFF. Due to his immense size, Enoch is the most powerful of all the Guardians and he is even stronger than the Queen when The Batter first encounters him. However, his enormous fat body makes it very difficult for him to move and he also gets tired very easily due to his body size, a weakness that eventually led to his defeat at the hands of The Batter.

Competences[]

  • Attack: A normal attack, with no special characteristics.
  • Attaque Double: A heavy-hitting double physical attack.
  • Trigger Element: An exceptionally powerful single-target attack.
  • Dramatic Crescendo: Drain's the enemy's competence points, making them unable to use certain Competences.
  • Dramatic Irony: A special attack that can also make the enemy Furious, enraging them to the point of abandoning all strategy and relentlessly focusing on normal physical attacks.
  • Law of Causation: A special attack that can also afflict the enemy with Poison, continuously dealing them damage that ignores their armor and durability.
  • Climax: A special attack that inflicts notable damage to all enemies. Enoch can only use this attack once he is below 30% health.

Quotes[]

Enoch: .. Who... who are you?
The Batter: I'm the Batter, and I've come to purify you, mister director.
Enoch: Purify? But that's ridiculous! Nothing justifies this drastic measure! It was the Queen who sent you, wasn't it? It must have been her. Be it as it may, I refuse!
The Batter: It's not a question of choice; you're the monstrous master of the horrible factory. I'm here to make you atone for your sins.
Enoch: Monstrous? Horrible factory? This is my fortress of happiness, my defense against the specters! The people were happy, before the phantoms arrived. Incidentally, I still don't understand why the dead aren't disappearing.
The Batter: The dead?
Enoch: Well, yes. The phantoms. They are the souls of dead people... has the thought never occurred to you? It's only logical...
The Batter: ... but... you have nothing to do with the phantoms?
Enoch: Of course not. I'm Enoch, the guardian of Zone 3. My role, like of all guardians, consists of modeling the energy sent by the Queen Mother to shape a solid context. I am the living engine of Zone 3. The Queen relies on us to create living spaces for the people. We are a little like gods, drawing from the infinite power of the sun to sculpt our worlds into the nothingness. Ahaha, I love that metaphor. Yes, like gods... precisely.
The Batter: You demented child of evil. The last grain of sand has fallen through the hourglass of your life.
Enoch: Certainly not! No matter your physical strength, you can't withstand my excess weight! Ahaha, fear me like the menacing shadow of your imminent extinction!
~ Enoch meeting The Batter.
Mwahahaha, I am exceptional!
~ Enoch when The Batter calls him monstrous.
Puf... puf... you won't get away this time, you pathetic little thug!
~ Enoch when The Batter escapes into the next room.
Pant... pant... contemplate the absurdity of this situation! Ah ah ah ah ah ah! You're just a puny pest I will crush in no time at all! The Game Over is nigh, Batter.
~ Enoch
Hhh... hhh... so, the hero has destroyed the beast... But do you know just what you have done? This zone, deprived of its guardian, is now destined to disappear... and the people who live here, whether the deserve it or not, to fall into the nothingness without hope of return.
~ Enoch's defeat.

Trivia[]

  • It's implied Enoch is aware that he is in a video game, for when he says "The Game Over is nigh, Batter.", "Game Over" is capitalized.
  • Enoch's name has religious significance. In the Bible, Enoch was the ancestor of Noah and "waked with God".
  • If The Batter is a high enough level, he can defeat Enoch during the first encounter, although this will not change anything.
