Charon IV, also known as Norah C. IV, is the main antagonist of Unfriended: Dark Web. He is a mysterious member of the hacking snuff filming group known as The Circle, who targets Matias and his friends in order to frame him for his crimes.

He was portrayed by Douglas Tait and Bryan Adrian.

Personality[]

Charon IV is shown to be a calculating, intelligent, yet very sadistic and greedy individual. He is shown having no qualms, along with the rest of The Circle, to torture and kill various women. Charon is also shown to have fits of anger, yet is very cowardly at times when Matias’ extorts him for money, which would have gotten him killed by the other Charons.

Biography[]

Charon IV is shown to be a high ranking agent of The Circle, showing to kidnap, human trafficking, torture and kill people on camera, communications with his fellow Charon through the river (an multi-layer non tracking protocol) and livestreams murders for audiences. One of these women happen to be Erica Dunne, who he kidnaps personally and cut a small portion of her head, which possibly kills her and leaves her in Matias’ house later.

In order to get away with his and his members crimes, Charon IV and the others devise a plan to pin the crimes on Matias Andy is friends Lexx, AJ, Nari, Serena and Damon. Charon IV leaves his laptop at a coffee shop, in which Matias takes and uses it to talk to his girlfriend Amaya and his friends.

Norah later appears in Erica’s account demanding the laptop back. While Matias agrees at first, he later finds all the evidence to their snuff filming, including one made by Charon IV himself, in which he is about to pour acid on a tied up woman. Then when Matias’ gets a call from Amaya, he sees that it’s from her roommate Kelly. However, Charon IV comes in behind her (glitchy) and attacks her with a hammer just off-screen and threatens Matias with Amaya’s life if he doesn’t get the laptop back.

Matias starts to extort Charon IV by stealing the 10M dollars in Bitcoin from his account and threatening to not give it back unless Erica is sage and to not stalk Amaya. Charon IV appears in a video chat, his face distorted and the two argue until The River is launched on its own and Matias is contacted by The Circle (filled with the other Charons), wanting to know why his account was empty. Charon IV reveals himself, unglitched, and managed to work with Matias to convince the circle that everything was okay, but Matias was still extorting Charon IV, setting the plan into motion.

Charon IV and the other Charon barge into the video call and start to pick off each of Matias’ friends, starting with Lexx, who they kidnap and throw off a rooftop. They then manages to get AJ swatted to death by making a false mass shooting threat and play a clip of a shotgun loading (it is shown that one of Charon’s was an officer.)

They then show Serena two clips of her dying mother in the hospital and Nari at the train station going to the cops, and force her to choose between the other. When Serena refuses to choose, they simply kill both by hacking into the hospital and cutting off her mothers’ life support and has another Charon shove her in front of a train, which results in that Charon’s death as well, before an assassin appears in her room and kills Serena.

Desperate, Matias leaves to find Amaya, leaving the laptop still on and connected to Damon’s own computer with the evidence. When Damon tries to tell The Circle about their evidence, the Circle reveals their framing by placing Erica in Matias’ home, photoshopping Matias’ face onto Charon IV’s face, and had another Charon forcibly hang Damon in his room while forging a suicide note, implicating Matias and everyone. Eventually, Charon IV manages to kidnap Amaya and when Matias begs them to stop, they simply put a poll on whether Matias lives, in which the majority votes “No” and with that, Matias is ran over by a van. Charon IV and The Circle gets away with their crimes.

Alternate endings[]

Second ending[]

In the first alternate ending, Matias heads to a field where they were and Charon IV knocks him out and buries him underground, and when Amaya comes, distorts his lips and masks his texts to make it unknown that he is underground, leaving him buried alive.

Third ending[]

In the second alternate ending on DVD/Blu-ray, when Matias and Amaya reunite in the field, the Charon's hold them hostage and make a poll on whether they should live. While originally voting No, Charon IX uploads the video on Matias extorting money on them, which lead to them being respected and instead voted to being let go. It is possible that Charon IV was punished or killed in the ending for being extorted by Matias, and his fate is left unknown.
