~ Black Bellamy |
Black Bellamy is the secondary antagonist in Sony Pictures Animation sixth and Aardman’s fifth feature film The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!.
He is a pirate who lives on Blood Island, the home isle of all pirates. In addition, he is famously known by pirates as the most wanted and dangerous pirate alive. He is also a rival of The Pirate Captain.
He was voiced by Jeremy Piven, who also played Timekeeper in the same movie and Dean Gordon Pritchard in Old School.
Personality[]
Black Bellamy is a highly egotistical and arrogant pirate who is also nasty and cruel, as he takes enjoyment in tormenting the Pirate Captain for his incompetence as a pirate and even push his buttons, which he excels at. However, after the Pirate Captain became the most dangerous pirate in history, Black Bellamy developed a sense of envy. This is evident as when he saw the Pirate Captain's new bounty (which is 100,000 doubloons), he is seen with a jealous look.
Biography[]
Black Bellamy was the most wanted and dangerous pirate in the Seven Seas, having a bounty of 10,000 doubloons. According to a poster of him, ever since 1822, he is known to give orphans the gift of Laughter. Due to being highly experienced in the ways of piracy, he had a history of always winning Pirate of the Year, managing to beat his rivals (or rather frenemies), Peg-Leg Hastings and Cutlas Liz.
The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists[]
Black Bellamy joins the Pirate of the Year competition as a nominee. He makes a dramatic (but spectacular) entrance when he emerges from a whale's mouth before shooting dual flintlock pistols at its uvula, causing all of the booty he had plundered to come pouring out. He even mildly surfed on a sea of his own loot. Black Bellamy, in his ego, then declares that he is going to be Pirate of the Year again, to the annoyance of Peg-Leg Hastings and Cutlas Liz, before shouting "Grog for everyone!" to the wild cheers of the other pirates in the Gut Rot Ale tavern.
When the Pirate Captain tries to sneak away from his rival, however, due to stepping on Black Bellamy's loot, this made loud clinking noises that got the latter's attention. Black Bellamy began ridiculing the Pirate Captain for his status as a less-dangerous pirate, as based on his own wanted poster, due to his incompetence and failures, he only earned a bounty of merely 12 doubloons (in addition to a free pen).
When The Pirate Captain's pet dodo Polly spat out a piece paper, it landed right into Black Bellamy's eye, to the disgust of Peg-Leg Hastings and Cutlas Liz. Though he was annoyed at first, Black Bellamy soon began to bully the Pirate Captain for something he had noticed on the crumpled paper that Polly had spat out. It turns out, the Pirate Captain had entered the Pirate of the Year competition for the year of 1837. Black Bellamy then insulted Polly by calling her a "fat parrot", which the Pirate Captain denies. Soon, all of the pirates present burst out into mocking laughter.
Having had enough of all mockery he is facing, the Pirate Captain angrily declares that he is going to be Pirate of the Year. However, Black Bellamy, not believing this, exploded into laughter (off-screen) along with the rest of the pirates shortly after the Pirate Captain and his crew had left the tavern.
Much later, Black Bellamy is present during the Pirate of the Year Award. As the Pirate King is about to reveal the nominees for the award, a pirate gives Black Bellamy a newspaper. When he reads the main article, he expresses a gleeful look. When the Pirate Captain was declared Pirate of the Year by the Pirate King, Black Bellamy was dismayed at first but he began to applaud slowly out of apparent respect (though this actually a false facade). Just as his rival goes onstage to receive his prize, Bellamy interrupts it and reveals the newspaper to all pirates present.
However, they strangely found it attractive. It turns out, Black Bellamy had showed them the back part of the newspaper, which features a cute-looking kitten. Realizing his mistake, he immediately turns the newspaper around, causing all the pirates to gasp in shock. It turns out, the newspaper reveals that the Pirate Captain has been pardoned by Queen Victoria, the ruling Monarch of England and an enemy to all pirates. With a smug look on his face, Black Bellamy reminds the Pirate Captain that if he is pardoned then he is no longer a pirate and if he is no longer a pirate he can't be Pirate of the Year.
As the Pirate King expresses his fury over the Pirate Captain's betrayal, Black Bellamy takes the Pirate of the Year trophy for himself. He then looks on in triumph as the Pirate Captain is banished from Blood Island. Later, Black Bellamy is seen lookin with jealousy at the Pirate Captain's new wanted poster and his new bounty of 100,000 doubloons. When the Pirate King unexpectedly appears, he takes back the Pirate of the Year trophy before departing, humiliating Black Bellamy in the process while Peg-Leg Hastings and Cutlas Liz began laughing at him.
