Salvation and Desertion is the sixth episode of Survivor: Panama.

Story[]

Night 14[]

After Tribal Council, Shane Powers made it clear that he thinks that keeping Bruce Kanegai was the wrong decision. This caused an argument between him and Danielle DiLorenzo, who just wanted to sleep.

Day 15[]

The next morning, Cirie Fields talked to Courtney Marit about the events of last night's Tribal Council and the women agreed that Shane is the next to go. Danielle badmouths Shane in an confessional.

At La Mina, Dan Barry woke up early to enjoy the scenery. The others wake up and eat what little beans they had left. Sally Schumann discusses the men on her tribe in a confessional, how they work and said she would be surprised if it goes as the men think it will. Later, Terry Deitz and Austin Carty ate minnows. In order to help bond with his tribemates, Dan revealed to Nick Stanbury that he was an astronaut. Nick was amazed and talks about how incredible Dan is. Austin is also impressed. Dan explains that he didn't tell anyone because he just wanted to be known as Dan, not as the astronaut guy.

Back at Casaya, Courtney is thankful for the sunshine. Shane walks up to the girls and asks if he can take his son's name back, which Danielle agrees to. Courtney didn't agree and another argument ensued. In a confessional, Aras Baskauskas states that he is glad that the alliance is done. Aras and Shane talked his actions. Aras viewed Shane as the next to go unless he can do something to change his mind.

Sally and Nick get Tree Mail for La Mina. Nick was weirded out by the skull in the Tree Mail. La Mina affirms that they need to win the challenge. Terry and Austin both note that La Mina need to win to have the numbers for the merge. At the challenge, La Mina was surprised when they saw that Bobby Mason was voted out. After explaining the rules for the next challenge, Jeff revealed that the winning tribe would be taking toys to a local Panamanian village and enjoy a feast. In addition, the winning tribe would send someone from the losing tribe to Exile Island and said person would not attend Tribal Council, effectively giving them immunity. Aras deemed that Courtney should sit out of the challenge. La Mina was initially leading the challenge, but Dan and Sally struggled with the first puzzle piece. This allowed Casaya to come back from behind and win the challenge. Casaya decided to exile Sally for being the last woman left.

Sally considered Exile Island her saving grace as she was knew she was going to be voted out. Sally said that if it didn't rain, she would look for the idol and enjoy her time on Exile Island. Casaya arrives at the Panamanian village and the tribe is greeted positively by the locals. Casaya gave away the toys and enjoyed the village's food and hospitality. The people reminded Cirie of her family. Shane saw a local boy smoking and begged him for a cigarette. Shane apologized to Danielle for his behavior. Cirie had mixed feelings about the victory as it prevented Shane from being voted out. Shane viewed this as one of the greatest experiences of his life.

At La Mina, Dan explained that the first puzzle piece would not fit, with Austin wondering why they lost. Austin made the pitch to Terry to vote out Dan because he was the weakest tribe member. Dan reaffirms that he didn't know why the puzzle piece didn't fit, and Nick tells him to stop worrying about it. Dan figured the vote would be tied 2-2 unless someone like Austin wanted to be voted out, which Nick doubts. The younger men were able to convince Terry to vote out his friend, Dan, who continued talking about how he faltered at the puzzle. Terry tells Dan that he was going to be voted out because he was seen as the weakest on the tribe. Dan took it well and took responsibility for the loss. In a confessional, Terry talks about his friendship with Dan.

At Tribal Council, it was made clear that Sally was going to be voted out had she not been exiled. Terry commended Casaya's tactic to exile Sally. Jeff said he was unable to tell who was getting voted out until Dan revealed that he was being voted out, though he was hoping for a tie. When the vote came, Dan was voted out 3-1. On his way out, his tribemates stood as a mark of respect. Dan salutes his tribe and they all salute back.

Challenges[]

Reward/Immunity Challenge: In-Cog-Neato
One at a time, three players run along a path through a field (crisscrossing the other tribe's several times) to reach one of four stations, untie a giant hanging skull-shaped puzzle piece, and haul it back. One player makes two trips. Then, the two others take the pieces and place them into rotating pieces on a solving platform until they all fit.
Reward: Toys brought to the children of a Panamanian village. While at the village, they would enjoy a barbecue with chicken, beef, and soft drinks.

Added Stipulation: The winning team will exile one member of the losing team, giving them immunity from the Tribal Council vote.

Winner: Casaya (exiled Sally Schumann)

(voting against Dan) Dan the man, um, you know this is coming tonight. I love you so much. Thank you for everything that you've showed me. I look up to you, too. I can't wait 'til we're swapping stories over chocolate milk in western Massachusetts.

(voting against Austin) Hey, I know it's me tonight and ahhhh. Austin, this is just a vote because I have to vote for somebody. I knew that we'd all play the game together and be friends for life. I'm going to miss you guys sorely. And, good luck and do well. Oh, and also, I promised Terry I'd never vote for him, so I can't vote for Terry tonight.

(voting against Dan) Dan, when it's all said and done with, if I can be half the man you are, I'll consider my life an immense success. It's been an honor.

(voting against Dan) Dan, sorry, buddy, but I'm doing this just for the strength of the tribe. Dan, you're an amazing man. Your trust, our conversation, your experiences and hardships we've endured have validated all of that for me. You've seen things and been places that we can only marvel at. Dan Barry, your new call sign is Fuego and your six is clear with me, buddy.

I was a little surprised by Terry's decision. I would never have voted for Terry, but he's got to play his game. I know that you did what you felt he had to do. I respect that, and I wish them all the best. This was a wonderful adventure. I loved every day out here, and the only thing I really have to say is, thank you to my family for letting Dad go off on another crazy adventure.
