Emily Flippen is a contestant from Survivor 45.

Starting the game socially isolated from her tribemates on Lulu, Emily's abrasive nature posed an obstacle to her managing her relationships with her tribe. After rehabilitating her image with the guidance of unlikely ally Kaleb Gebrewold, Emily took over control of her tribe and later integrated herself with the Reba Four to secure herself a spot at the final seven. However, her deferential gameplay cost her valuable opportunities to break away from the Rebas as she found herself voted out as collateral damage when Julie Alley played her idol to negate a unanimous vote.

3 Words to Describe You: Direct, genuine, aggressive.
Why do you want to be part of Survivor? Some of the best advice I've received is to "live a more interesting life." What's more interesting than Survivor?
What's one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game? When I was 18, I moved to Shanghai to be part of the inaugural class of the first joint Sino-American University in China. I'm accustomed to working with (and competing against) people with many different backgrounds and life experiences.
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like? I've been told my personality is extremely similar to Kass. I take that as the complement that it is. However, I plan on playing my own game and making an entirely unique set of mistakes.
What will you value in an alliance partner? Openness. I want to work with someone who wears their heart on their sleeve. Who won't leave you guessing as to their emotions or intentions.
Favorite Hobbies: Doting over my cat, playing video games, meal-prepping.
Pet Peeves: Nearly everything. Chewing, snoring, arrogance, being overly serious, being overly jokey. You name it and it probably irritates me.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of? Passing all three levels of my CFA exams on my first attempt. (Trust me, it's a solid humblebrag in the world of finance!)
What is something we would never know from looking at you? I'm not religious, but I am guided by my own very strict sense of right and wrong.
Who in your life is your biggest inspiration and why? My dad. I take after him in a lot of ways. He has shown me the importance of accepting yourself for who you are while also pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor? I lack a lot of the traditional qualities that make a good Survivor player: I'm out of shape, don't really like the outdoors, and people can find me off-putting. Which is exactly why they'll never see me coming![2]

Beginning the game on the Lulu tribe, Emily started out as the outcast of the tribe. Due to her abrasive comments and pessimistic nature, she was seen as an easy target for the alliance of Kaleb Gebrewold, Sabiyah Broderick, and Sean Edwards early on. When Kaleb and Sabiyah lost the Sweat vs Savvy challenge, Emily hid her emotions but was infuriated, believing they took a reward for themselves. This paranoid line of thinking came to light at Lulu's first tribal council where, after losing the first Immunity Challenge, Emily became the definite player to eliminate. At tribal council, Emily even tried to turn the tables on Kaleb, Sabiyah, and Sean by calling out their alliance in hopes that Brandon Donlon and Hannah Rose wouldn't vote against her. However, all of this was changed as soon as Hannah confessed her desire to quit the game. Hannah even hinted that the other Lulu castaways were planning on voting for Emily, incentivizing her to change her game. Hannah left the game and Emily was forced to deal with the consequences of calling out the other Lulu members when she returned to camp.

After Lulu lost their second Immunity Challenge, Emily had to readjust to her new circumstances with her tribemates. She began to work with Kaleb, the social center of the tribe, who gave her a second chance and immense help in the game. The pair began to work together and lay the groundwork for an alliance that could last. To prove her worth to Kaleb, Sabiyah, and Sean, she gave them her Shot in the Dark die as a show of trust so they could rest assured that she wouldn't play her Shot in the Dark. At tribal council, Emily latched onto the majority's plan to vote for Brandon, which succeeded in getting him booted. After tribal council, though, Emily was confused when she realized that there were only three votes in the urn. She correctly came to the conclusion that it must've been Sabiyah who didn't vote, knowing Brandon had lost his before, and began inquiring about it to her, which she denied.

Lulu finally earned a victory on Day 6 when Kaleb single-handedly won them a Reward Challenge. This shift made Sabiyah and Sean want to vote out Kaleb at the next tribal, perceiving him as a threat in the future. After they lost their third Immunity Challenge, Sabiyah and Sean were set on targeting Kaleb. Their undoing came when they tried to bring Emily in on the vote who wanted to keep Kaleb in the game as her only lifeline. She informed Kaleb of their plan and urged him to vote with her against Sabiyah so she could save him and weaken Sean. At tribal council, Sabiyah sacrificed her vote to extend the lifespan of her idol, leading to Emily and Kaleb's plan triumphing and Sabiyah being blindsided.

On Day 8, a tribe swap occurred and all three original castaways from Lulu were split up. Placed on the new Belo tribe, Emily was determined to put herself out there before jumping into strategy, wanting the new tribe to get to know her. Belo lost its first Immunity Challenge on Day 11, putting Emily in the crossfire between strategic adversaries on the new Belo tribe. Emily was positioned as the swing vote between the two new Reba tribe members placed on Belo and the old Belo tribe members. Emily wanted to work with Austin Li Coon and Drew Basile from the get-go and decided to vote with them at tribal council against Brando Meyer. This strained her relationship with Kendra McQuarrie but strengthened her bond with Austin and Drew, solidifying her eventual integration into the Reba Four.

On Day 13, the remaining thirteen castaways were split into two teams of six with one sit-out for the "Earn the Merge" Immunity Challenge. In the end, Emily's group (consisting of herself, Dee Valladares, J. Maya, Jake O'Kane, Kaleb, and Kellie Nalbandian) lost and she did not attend the merge feast or obtain her buff. When the winning team returned, the consensus around camp was to target Kaleb for being the biggest threat on the beach, much to Emily's dismay. Emily advocated against voting out Kaleb for most of the afternoon, only to be met with criticism from the other tribe members. She was sent to talk to Kaleb and make him feel secure so that he wouldn't play his Shot in the Dark at tribal council. Emily chose to push Kaleb to play his Shot in the Dark, notifying him that the entire tribe was against him at the moment. She agreed to vote for him in case it went awry, entering tribal council with a plan to protect Kaleb once again. At tribal council, Kaleb played his Shot in the Dark and negated eleven votes against him, forcing a re-vote where J. Maya threw out Emily's name, leading to her subsequent unanimous elimination.

On Day 14, the twelve castaways were divided into teams of six yet again for the Double Elimination. While Emily sided with Kellie's plan to vote out Sifu on her team, Dee led a dogpile vote on Kaleb on her cycle, leaving Emily as the last original Lulu member in the game. Thankfully, she had connections with the Reba Four to lean on that could carry her forward in the game. In the following days, she proceeded with the Rebas to blindside Kellie and Kendra at the final ten and nine, respectively (though she lost her vote at the final nine). Emily expressed her desire to sit with Austin and Drew at Final Tribal Council, throwing out Dee's name to test their loyalty going forward. She earned their trust but was wary of their allegiance to her because of their hesitance towards voting out Dee. Although she identified her inner turmoil with keeping Rebas in the game, she set her sights on targeting Bruce Perreault before any other plans came to fruition.

On Day 18, the final eight competed in a Reward Challenge for an overnight at the sanctuary, a reward which Emily won. She brought Dee, Julie Alley, and Katurah Topps on the reward with her where they also received dinner and letters from home. There, she switched her plans to go after Bruce, a plan which Katurah was elated to go with. Though she had the option to work with Bruce, because of all the infighting with the remaining Belo tribe members, she couldn't rally them against a Reba. Austin won the Immunity Challenge on Day 19, giving Emily a window of opportunity to flush the Lulu Hidden Immunity Idol and get rid of Bruce. While the Rebas tried to split the vote between Jake and Bruce in case Bruce played his idol, Emily was determined to eliminate him. Emily convinced Bruce he was safe and that he should target Julie for "playing him", coaxing him into believing she was only being nice to him to get his jury vote. At tribal council, Jake, Julie, and Katurah all voted with Emily and Bruce was defeated. Back at camp, Emily had to explain why Bruce voted for Julie after it caused confusion, revealing her big move in the process. This cleared the air but painted a target on Emily's back as a strategic threat.

On Day 21, the final seven participated in an Immunity Challenge, which Drew won. After Drew talked with Jake and Austin, determining that Julie was the biggest threat in the game, they shared the plan to vote her out with Emily. This led to a silent conflict between Emily and Julie that would take over camp prior to the elimination where nearly everyone was approached by one of them telling them to vote the other out. The consensus was a near unanimous vote out on Julie until Dee was informed of the plan. Dee told Julie to play the Reba Hidden Immunity Idol, instructing her to vote for Emily in the process. At tribal council, Julie played her idol, negating six votes against her and sending Emily to the jury.

At Final Tribal Council, Emily was won over by Dee's pitch on her strategy that eliminated her. She cast her jury vote for Dee, contributing to her victory in a 5-3-0 vote over Austin and Jake.

^1 In "I'm Not Batman, I'm the Canadian", Kaleb successfully played his Shot in the Dark, negating Emily's vote against him.
