Topaz was a blue material that could be used to encrust comm earpieces.[1] In 228 BBY,[2] the Nihil Minister of Information Ghirra Starros used her blue-topaz-encrusted earpiece to accept a comm message from the Nihil's leader, Marchion Ro, while in a café on the planet Coruscant.[1]

In the current Star Wars canon, topaz appeared in the 2024 novel Temptation of the Force, written by Tessa Gratton and published as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[3] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, topaz was first introduced in Alan Dean Foster's 1976 novelization of[4] the 1977 original trilogy film Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.[5] The gemstone later made its first full appearance in the 1995 novel Children of the Jedi by Barbara Hambly.[6] In the real world, topaz is a type of gemstone that can come in many colors.[7]
