Shimholt were a tall, purple-skinned sentient species^[1] native to the planet Kar'a'katok. A very long-lived race, the Shimholt were known as a friendly, agrarian species until around 4000 BBY, when Kar'a'katok was devastated by invading Nelori Marauders. The war turned the Shimholt into a xenophobic and reclusive species, and although their wholehearted embrace of military doctrine repelled the Nelori, it gave rise to a fanatical religious faction that overthrew the planet's democratic government and ruled the Shimholt for millennia. Kar'a'katok was deemed closed to outsiders and Shimholt forbidden to travel offworld—no Shimholt were seen in the wider galaxy until the Galactic Civil War, when a Shimholt named Ampotem Za was taken prisoner during an Imperial raid on Kar'a'katok. Rendered a pariah on his homeworld for being taken offworld, Za submitted to the Empire and served until his death in 3 ABY under the name "Suprema."^[2]
