"Miscellaneous Ships and Vehicles (1)" is a booklet in a series of canon reference booklets titled the Star Wars Encyclopedia. It was published on May 13, 2022.[1]
The variety of ships in the galaxy was as vast as the variety of species and creatures that populated it and could fly them. This variety had to take into account the different expectations of all potential customers. To ensure the profitability of their products, starship manufacturers had to diversify their lines as much as possible. But once the ships were on the market, the manufacturers had no control over the units sold. Many pilots made modifications to the models to suit their needs. Cargo ships or ships of the line were transformed into pirate, war or smuggling ships. Users reinforced armor or shields, replaced hyperdrives with more powerful models, or installed new weapons to protect themselves from potential threats. The biggest challenge for these independent travelers was finding spare parts to customize their devices. Some vehicles were so out of date that only their owners could safely fly them. But many of the ships served their intended purpose until they were discarded.[1]
