Jedi of the Republic – Mace Windu 2 is the second issue of the canon comic book miniseries Star Wars: Jedi of the Republic – Mace Windu. The issue was written by Matt Owens, illustrated by Denys Cowan, and published on September 27, 2017 by Marvel Comics.

Plot summary[]

Book I, Part II

It is a time of turmoil! The Clone Wars have begun and
the Jedi find themselves pulled away from their roles
as peacekeepers to become soldiers.

Jedi Master Mace Windu has assembled a small covert
team — comprised of Jedi Knights Kit Fisto, Prosseet [sic]
Dibs, and Rissa Mano — to investigate Separatist
activity on the remote planet Hissrich.

Little do the Jedi know that the Separatist threat
they've been sent to disarm is AD-W4--a mercenary
droid with his own agenda....

Mace Windu, Kit Fisto, Prosset Dibs, and Rissa Mano enter the subterranean caves of Hissrich, accompanied by several native creatures. Windu and Fisto discuss what they could be, and Windu notes that he does not sense malice from the creatures. The Jedi are brought to the center of the caves, and once again try to understand how what they are seeing relates to the Separatist activity. Mano discovers one of the creatures bending over a disabled battle droid.

Meanwhile, at the droid base, AD-W4 confirms all his droid units are ready to mobilize. Discovering something in Sector S2C, AD-W4 says he will lead the escort himself as he wishes to deal with the Jedi personally.

Mano inspects the damaged droid and discovers that it is still functional, though her plans to look at its memory are interrupted by the arrival of the Separatists. The Jedi watch as the caves crumble and plants are ripped from the ground, then are thrown off balance by a huge explosion that brings droids in through a hole in the surface. Windu takes on the destroyers while Fisto, Dibs, and Mano go to protect the indigenous residents. After Windu destroys the droids, he is faced by AD-W4. The two have a brief exchange before Windu challenges AD-W4. As Fisto, Dibs, and Mano fight on their front, Mano wonders who Windu is fighting. Windu and AD-W4 argue about conscience and credits before AD-W4 hurls a bunch of scrap at Windu, throwing him off the cliff before he is caught by Fisto. Mano and Windu team up to face AD-W4, climbing up one of the plants before Windu discovers a droid harvesting them. Suddenly the two Jedi understand why the Separatists have come here - they can get a massive power supply from these plants because of their photosynthesis. Windu and Mano destroy the harvesters. Dibs and Fisto fight more droids as they realize the cave is collapsing.

Windu and Mano make it to a vantage point and observe a slew of other droids harvesting the plants. The comic ends with Mace ominously predicting that if something isn't done, the entirety of Hissrich will die.
