Plot summary[]

In 34 ABY, the Halcyon Legacy is fired upon by pirate Crimson Jack’s ship, but Captain Keevan realizes that the pirates are after something aboard the ship since the shots had minimal damage and were only a warning. Crimson Jack then contacts the Halcyon and states that if they are allowed to board and take the Resistance spy, then they will leave and most of their passengers will be left unharmed, or else everyone will be killed. After the transmission cuts, Keevan discusses the matter with cruise director Lenka Mok, and Keevan decides that they won’t be surrendering and will instead lure the ship into a nearby massive solar storm. Elsewhere on the Halcyon, D3-O9 tries to comfort Cimina and says that this isn’t the ship’s first time dealing with a solar storm. Telling Cimina a story from the past, a flashback occurs to the days of the Republic and bounty hunter Aurra Sing’s experience aboard the Halcyon.

D3-O9 informs the bounty hunter that a man is in need of her services, but she initially isn’t interested as she’s on vacation. The man, Colram Vestig, is disturbed by his son Wilmar who begs his father to go on the safari expedition to Numidian Prime so that they can see the Predavorexx, but an annoyed Colram pushes his son away and ignores his wishes. Colram speaks with Aurra and wants to hire her for protection as he owes the Hutts a lot of gambling debts, but Aurra already knew this as his losing streak has taken a lot of notice, and she secretly has another set of eyes watching in the form of fellow bounty hunter Zam Wesell, a shapeshifting Clawdite. Aurra accepts, and Colram explains that he has a hefty amount of credits, but owes the Hutts even more and is close to a deal so he just needs to stay alive until then. When a Weequay working for the Hutts approaches and begins to taunt Colram, Aurra grabs the man and pins him to a table, but the Weequay warns that she’ll need to save her energy in order to rescue Colram’s kid. The two learn that Wilmar has been taken down to Numidian Prime, but when D3-O9 tells Aurra that it’s too dangerous to go due to an approaching solar storm, she forces the droid to come with her in the transport shuttle.

Once on the surface, Aurra and the Weequay are warned that they have only ten minutes until the solar storm approaches and need to be back aboard the Halcyon before then. Aurra is led through the jungle by the Weequay and reaches a standing platform containing three more Weequay Hutt members holding Wilmar at blaster point, but she is suddenly attacked by a wild Predavorexx. Aurra attempts to attack the beast with her blaster rifle, but is knocked aside while the Weequay begins to plead that he shouldn’t be in this situation and deserves to be in safety with the rest of the Weequay. However, he is snatched up in the claws of the Predavorexx before he can flee and is quickly silenced as he is bitten in half. While Aurra also runs for her life, the Hutts aboard the Halcyon place a bet worth forty-thousand credits that Aurra is eaten as well, but she is able to evade the beast’s grasp and reach her blaster where she ends the Predavorexx with a well placed shot to its head. However, the Weequay continue to hold the kid at blaster point and warn her that she is outnumbered, but when they mention that there are three of them, she says that she counts four and this causes confusion amongst the Weequay. Just then, one of the Weequay pulls a blaster on the others and shoots them dead, and it is revealed to be Zam Wesell who was imposing as one of Wilmar’s Weequay captives. While Zam jokes that she took longer than normal because she too had to place bets on the Predavorexx, the trio makes their way to the transport shuttle and heads back to the Halcyon with D3-O9. Once back on the ship, D3-O9 provides refreshments to the two bounty hunters as compliments from the captain who is grateful that they saved the young passenger. However, they are warned that the Hutts have just purchased the Halcyon and are technically their bosses, and with this, Aurra and Zam realize that it is their time to leave.

Back in the present, Cimina and her grandfather Shorr are told that Aurra and Zam would go on to die in grisly manners, and when Cimina questions how the story involved surviving a solar storm, D3-O9 realizes that the Halcyon only managed to avoid one and tries to reassure her that there’s a chance they can survive this one. Meanwhile, Crimson Jack prepares to board the Halcyon whilst Captain Keevan warns the passengers of incoming turbulence as she puts the ship in full speed ahead.
