An enslaver,^[2][3] also referred to as a slaver or slave trader,^[1] was a person who bought, sold, or managed enslaved individuals. Darts D'Nar was a Zygerrian enslaver who operated during the Clone Wars. Azmorigan was a Jablogian enslaver who operated during the reign of the Galactic Empire.^[4]

History[]

Enlavers prized the Wookiees of Kashyyyk due to the species' long lifespan, strength, and keen intellect.^[5] When Asajj Ventress was an infant, she was taken by a enslaver.^[6]

During the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems restored the Zygerrian Slave Empire as a puppet state.^[7] With the backing of the Separatist Droid Army, the Zygerrians captured and enslaved the Togruta people of the Kiros colony. A rescue mission was launched, consisting of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka Tano, and Clone Captain Rex.^[8]

Behind the scenes[]

In the drafting for the young-adult novel Queen's Shadow,^[2] released on March 5, 2019,^[9] author E. K. Johnston worked with an editor to ensure the novel's inclusion of the concept of enslavement was written to use active wording rather than object words, specifically in regard to referring to someone as an "enslaver" rather than "a slaver." The novel Master & Apprentice by Claudia Gray,^[2] released on April 16 of the same year,^[10] similarly included slavery as a central theme in the work. Gray indicated that she also preferred using the terms "enslavement" and "slavers" unless there was sufficient context to justify other usages to remain sensititve to the issue. In the usages of "slave" and "slaver" that she did keep in Master & Apprentice, Gray noted that she included them to not word the concept too softly, indicating that evil individuals would not care about objectifying individuals and thus would choose to refer to individuals working for them derogatorily.^[2]
