- "Your skills are impressive, Commander. It is good to know your reputation is not exaggerated."
"You handle yourself well in a fight."
"I can pilot a shuttle too... unless someone sabotages it." - ―Empress Acina and the Alliance Commander
The ambush on Dromund Kaas was a failed attempt of former Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic Leontyne Saresh to assassinate Empress Acina of the Sith Empire and the Commander of the Alliance during the War against Zakuul.
Prelude[]
When the Eternal Empire of Zakuul revealed itself to the larger galaxy and launched the invasion on both the Empire and the Republic, Darth Acina was the only member of the Dark Council to not end up dead or in hiding. Acina assumed leadership of the Empire and declared herself Empress of the Sith, signing a peace treaty with the Eternal Empire.[5] She bided her time until give years later an Alliance emerged to challange the Eternal Empire's dominion over the galaxy and launched a War against Zakuul.[6] After the defeat of Eternal Emperor Arcann at the hands of the Alliance Commander during the Battle of Odessen, Acina openly defied the heralds of his successor Vaylin, putting an end to an era of Sith submission.[7]
When Vaylin's Eternal Fleet launched an Invasion of Voss, Acina set the Imperial Navy to aid the Alliance, securing the victory in battle. In the aftermath, Acina acknowledged the Alliance as an independent power and invited the Alliance Commander to Dromund Kaas to negotiate an agreement.[1] Former Republic Supreme Chancellor Leontyne Saresh learned that the Alliance Commander was traveling to Dromund Kaas and decided to seize the opportunity to take control of their Alliance. Collaborating with Imperial Minister of Logistics Gelmid Lorman, Saresh sent a group of GenoHaradan assassins to Dromund Kaas to sabotage Acina's shuttle while she and the Alliance Commander were in talks, ordering to retrieve their bodies.[3]
The Ambush[]
The Alliance Commander traveled to Kaas City with their advisors Lana Beniko and Theron Shan. The three of them were greeted by Lorman, who escorted them to meet Empress Acina. She insisted on speaking privately aboard her personal shuttle, thande Commander agreed, leaving Lana and Theron behind to keep an eye on Lorman. In flight, their conversation was interrupted by a sudden engine failure, requiring Acina to escaped before the shuttle crashed. Saresh decided to withhold the GenoHaradan's bonus until they found the bodies to confirm the deaths. Now stuck in the wilderness of Dromund Kaas with their comms mysteriously jammed, Acina and the Commander were forced to contend with the planet's dangerous wildlife and lightning storms, traversing the terrain to the crashed shuttle in hopes of recovering the emergency beacon. A group of GenoHaradan was already waiting for them there, but proved no match for the Alliance Commander and the Empress of the Sith. The pair swiftly dealt with the assassins and located their camp, where the Commander discovered a holorecording from Leontyne Saresh, exposing her as the one who ordered the hit. A gunship appeared and opened fire, forcing Acina and the Commander to take shelter in a nearby Sith tomb, the entrance of which was collapsed by the barrage.[3]
Meanwhile, Lorman told Shan and Beniko that the Commander was presumably dead. Saresh called them on to express false sympathy for their leader's apparent demise and offered to step in to fill the power vacuum in the Alliance Theron immediately refused her offer, but Saresh promised that in time they would see that she was right and traveled to Odessen to make her move for thj control of the Alliance. As the Empress and the Commander descended further into the tomb's depths, the pair found the traitorous Minister Lorman, who was behind the shuttle sabotage, and a GenoHaradan strike team seeking to finish their job. After they dispatched the GenoHaradan, Lorman claimed to have Lana and Theron hostage and attempted to call his men, only to discover that his so-called hostages had dispatched them. Acina offered the Commander to decide Lorman's fate while Theron informed the Commander that Saresh was coming to Odessen in a bid to take over the Alliance.[3]
Aftermath[]
The Commander quickly traveled to Odessen, where Saresh was making a speech in front of the Alliance personnel. Her timing seemed perfect, as some of the lower ranking Alliance members were willing to hear her out, uncertain on how the Alliance would continue without their leader. But just as she had begun her speech, the Commander, having survived the GenoHaradan and Lorman's betrayal, confronted Saresh and put an end to her attempted coup. Saresh refused to apologize for her actions, stating that she saw an opportunity and took it, and that she deserved to lead the Alliance. She assumed that she would be executed, stating that it's what she and Vaylin would do. After her fate was decided, Acina contacted the Commander again with a formal offer on an alliance.[3]
