"Robotnikland" redirects here. For the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog episode, see Robotnikland (episode).

Eggmanland[4] (エッグマンランド[6] Eggumanrando?), alternatively spelled as Eggman Land,[3][7][8] and previously called Robotnikland,[9] is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a city[9]/theme park hybrid that is considered by the infamous Dr. Eggman to be his ultimate robotic utopia.[4][10] Eggmanland is the proposed capital of the Eggman Empire, from which the doctor seeks to spread his rule over the world.[9] Though Eggman continues to strive towards building Eggmanland, his plans are usually foiled by Sonic the Hedgehog and his allies, and when he does manage to build it, it usually gets torn down or abandoned when his grander plans go awry.

Description[]

I don't settle for the world as it is, doctor. I make it what I want it to be. If I want my enemies' last moments to be carousel music and the smell of petroleum-based cotton candy, that's what I'll make happen.

Dr. Eggman explains Eggmanland to Doctor Starline, Sonic the Hedgehog: Imposter Syndrome Issue 4

There is not a clear depiction of Eggmanland, as its appearance varies every time it is built. It is generally seen as Dr. Eggman's vision of an ideal paradise,[4][6][9][11][12] with an area that varies from a large metropolis to a planet-spanning empire.[12][13] If its depiction from the Dark Gaia incident is taken as a representative though, it can be said that Eggmanland is a massive area filled with machinery and pollution, as well as with various golden statues and signs depicting Eggman himself.

History[]

Past[]

The idea of a robotic utopia ruled by Dr. Eggman was apparently conceived by the doctor himself. For years, Eggman would dream of building Eggmanland and make it the capital of his empire.[10]

At some point, the doctor established MeteorTech, a security company which he planned to use in his bid to build his city; after all five Arks of the Cosmos fell to the surface of earth, he would then order his robots to start a rampage on a planetary scale to conquer the world and establish his city.[14][15]

Sonic Labyrinth[]

Over time, Dr. Eggman would make countless plans to build Eggmanland that would be ultimately foiled by Sonic. Early examples of these included finding the Chaos Emeralds hidden on South Island[1] and procuring the Time Stones on Little Planet to control time.[10] Nevertheless, on one occassion, the doctor did manage to build a labyrinth-based Eggmanland, known as the Super Labyrinth, on South Island when he tricked Sonic into putting on his nasty Slow Down Boots to make him unable to run.[16] However, the hedgehog made his way through the base, collected the Chaos Emeralds that were guarded inside, and defeated Eggman.

Sonic Adventure[]

During the Chaos incident, Dr. Eggman made a nasty plan to destroy Station Square using the powers of the almighty Chaos and build Eggmanland on the ruins of this city, but his ambitions never were realized.[9] Later on, the scientist would make more attempts to build Eggmanland that ultimately failed, including by shattering the earth using Chaos Control.[2][3][17][18]

Shadow the Hedgehog[]

In the wake of the Black Arms' invasion of the earth, Eggman was planning to build Eggmanland, but his plans were interrupted by the invading aliens.[4] Later, the doctor made a partnership with his descendant, Eggman Nega, to create a dimensional Eggmanland with the combined powers of the Chaos and the Sol Emeralds, but the villains' plans were foiled by Sonic and Blaze the Cat. The two scientists would team up again to use the Power of the Stars found in Blaze's native universe, the Sol Dimension, to terraform her home planet into Eggmanland.[11] As usual, however, this plan failed.

Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity[]

When the final two Arks of the Cosmos landed on earth, causing a global robot rampage, Eggman sought to secure the Arks for himself to use this event to his advantage and carry out his years long plan of building Eggmanland. However, his plans were not realized due to the interference of Team Sonic and the Babylon Rogues.[14][15] This series of events ultimately chained into the creation of a black hole within Babylon Garden that was fortunately put to an end by the two groups.

Sonic Unleashed[]

Dr. Eggman later schemed to harness the limitless energies of Dark Gaia to build Eggmanland. After the earth was shattered by Dark Gaia when the doctor awoke it, Eggmanland was built by a construction system powered by Dark Gaia's energies on a lone floating continent. Unfortunately, due to Dark Gaia's premature awakening it was unable to hold itself together, and dispersed across the globe, and thus, the construction of Eggmanland was significantly delayed.[7] Eggman, however, devised a machine that attracted Dark Gaia's fragments, to his location, speeding up the construction of Eggmanland. The city had been completed by the time Sonic and Chip set foot on its continent to find the final Gaia Temple and fully restore the planet. Upon reaching the temple at the bottom of Eggmanland, the duo restored its continent and afterwards defeated Eggman and put Dark Gaia to rest. The city was destroyed later on.[5]

Sonic Generations[]

During the Time Eater incident, a recreation of Eggmanland from the previous Dark Gaia incident served as the site where Modern Sonic encountered Dr. Eggman in his Egg Dragoon. After a tough battle, the hedgehog defeated the doctor. When the Time Eater was destroyed not long after, Eggmanland was presumably restored to its proper state in the timeline.

Sonic Forces[]

Months before the War to Take Back the Planet, Eggman discovered the Phantom Ruby. Upon touching the gem, it showed his ideal version of Eggmanland, which was his greatest desire. However, the vision vanished when the doctor dropped the Phantom Ruby out of shock at the vision, much to his massive disappointment. This did, regardless, showcase him the powers of the mystical gemstone.[19]

Other game appearances[]

The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog[]

During the Mirage Express incident, Dr. Eggman made a disgraceful scheme to transform the Mirage Express into a passenger train to host Amy Rose's birthday. His plan was to trap Amy and her friends in the train and take them to his base, where he would dispose of them for good to build Eggmanland (and potentially another Death Egg) unopposed. However, his plot was ultimately thwarted when the heroes joined forces to stop the Mirage Express.

In the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series, on Sonic's birthday, Dr. Ivo Robotnik took over the Mobiusland amusement park, filling it with death traps and renaming it "Robotnikland" for a nasty scheme to defeat his nemesis and conquer Mobius. After successfully managing to lure the hedgehog to his theme park, the doctor forced him to pass through various of his traps whilst dealing with the S.S.S.S.S.S. along the way. However, with help from his friends, Sonic was able to defeat the villains and expel them from Robotnikland, which was then renamed "Sonicland" in the hedgehog's honor.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, Eggman Land is an energy refinery designed to resemble an amusement park with lethal attractions created by Dr. Eggman. After discovering the raw energies released by Dark Gaia during the Shattered World Crisis, the doctor designed Eggman Land as part of his plan to harvest and refine these energies. However, the base was eventually destroyed.

Mr. Tinker reveals his version of Eggman Land, from Sonic the Hedgehog #6.

Dr. Eggman, while amnesiac and living in a village under the kindly personality of "Mr. Tinker", told Sonic that he would like to show him the completed Eggman Land in case he came back, leading Sonic to question whether Eggman's amnesia was genuine.[20] Having heard Eggman mention Eggman Land as well, Shadow tried to destroy Eggman to keep Eggman Land from menacing the world again until Sonic intervened and got him to go about this peacefully. Shadow thus had Eggman show him his Eggman Land, which was an indoor amusement park he had made for children and named after a word he remembered, clearing him of all suspicions.[21]

Battle For Angel Island[]

While singing for the children playing in his Eggman Land amusement park, Eggman received a visit from Rough the Skunk and Tumble the Skunk. The skunk brothers proceeded to kidnap Eggman, who cried out for help as he was being taken away.[22]

Out of the Blue[]

Following the Metal Virus pandemic, the villagers became distrustful of Dr. Eggman once again. Due to this, they dismantled everything he had built in the village and recycled it, which included the Eggman Land amusement park.[23]

Imposter Syndrome[]

During his time under Eggman, Doctor Starline once asked Eggman why he was so interested in building theme parks, which took up a great deal of resources. While Eggman initially only answered that he liked theme parks, he explained with further prompting that creating Eggmanland was him creating the world he wanted.[24]
