Undyne is a major character in the 2015 indie-game Undertale, serving as a major character in the Neutral Route (ranging anywhere from a major protagonist, a posthumous character, major (heroic) antagonist, or unseen final antagonist depending on your actions), a major antagonist-turned-supporting protagonist in the True Pacifist Route, and the secondary antagonist of the Genocide Route.
What Makes Her a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: While Undyne attempts to capture Frisk after the latter entering Waterfall, it is because she believes that they would be more useful dead than alive for Asgore's plan of collecting human SOULs, and Undyne still give Frisk a fair chance to fight against her. Undyne could save the falling Monster Kid despite she would be injured.
- Courageous/Reckless: Undyne would confront Frisk even in Genocide Route, a route where Frisk has killed nearly all monsters in Ruins and Snowdin.
- Stubborn: Undyne initially rejects to Papyrus convincing her not to harm Frisk if Papyrus is alive. Regardless, Undyne chases Frisk throughout Waterfall. Additionally, Undyne is the monster who possesses the most Determination, a power that allows SOULs to persist after death.
- Unintelligent: While Undyne has formidable fighting skill, she is somewhat unintelligent in certain subjects, such as dating and cooking.
- Possesses Plot Armor: In Genocide Route, Undyne refuses to die after protecting Monster Kid from Frisk's attack, and transforms into Undyne the Undying thanks to her determination.
- Unnatural Hair Color: Undyne's hair color is red.
- Short-Tempered: Undyne is generally quick to anger.
- Has Mentors: Asgore is Undyne's mentor.
- Is a Blood Knight: Undyne has the tendency of enjoying challenges, including but not limited to fighting.
