Mario is the titular main protagonist of the Super Mario Bros. franchise.
He was voiced by Charles Martinet from 1991-2022 and, as of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, he is currently voiced by Kevin Afghani.
What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Honorable: Mario has saved the universe countless times from multiple threats, most notably Bowser.
- Courageous/Reckless: Mario is willing to put his life on the line to save others.
- Energetic: Mario has a tendency of shouting "WAHOO" and has an adventurous, fun-loving and excitable personality.
- Stubborn: Mario refuses to give up, no matter how many times people tell him to do so.
- Pursues a Big-End Goal: Mario wants to live his life as a hero by helping as many people as he can.
- Optimistic: Regardless of his downfalls, Mario keeps his chin up.
- Believes in the Power of Friendship: Mario receives help from not only his brother Luigi and the Toads, but also the many creatures he meets on the way on his journey to save the universe from malicious threats.
- Possesses Plot Armor: Mario survives through explosions and collapses of buildings.
- Has Rivals: Wario is Mario's rival, and a friendlier one in Donkey Kong. He also occasionally competes with Sonic in crossovers between them.
- Is a Primary-Colored Champion: Mario wears a red shirt and hat and blue overalls. His eyes are also blue.
- Is a Chick Magnet: Has attracted multiple princesses in the series that wasn't just Peach due to his heroic efforts in saving their loves, this also includes Daisy, Pauline and even the Paper Mario series, almost every female partner, NPC, and even female enemy Mario encountered, all find themselves attracted to Mario in some way.
