Jamal Walker is the titular main protagonist of Black Knight. He was portrayed by Martin Lawrence.

What Makes Him a Shonen Hero?[]

  • Heroic/Honorable: Jamal has saved England from King Leo's incompetent rule and frees Victoria after she was captured by Percival, helping the Queen restore peace to the kingdom.
  • Courageous/Reckless: Jamal puts his life on the line to save England by leading the rebellion to the war against King Leo and Percival.
  • Energetic: Jamal is rather hotblooded.
  • Stubborn: Jamal decides to lead the rebellion despite being an outlaw.
  • Pursues a Big-End Goal: After falling into the river that transports him from his time to the 14th Century, Jamal sets out to find his way home.
  • Hard-Working: Jamal puts in the effort to train the rebels in combat in order to prepare them for the upcoming war.
  • Unintelligent: Though street-smart, Jamal can be clueless at times.
  • Optimistic: Jamal often manages to keep a positive attitude despite his circumstances.
  • Determined: Jamal is often the last one to hold out for a good cause.
  • Believes in the Power of Friendship: Jamal highly values unity and treats the poor with kindness and respect, going as far as to lead the rebellion to end King Leo's reign of incompetence.
  • Possesses Plot Armor: Jamal manages to escape from the castle when he was about to be executed.
  • Short-Tempered: Jamal has moments of being provoked.
  • Mischievous: Jamal sometimes makes snarky remarks to those he opposes.
  • Rebellious: Jamal leads the rebellion to take down King Leo and Percival.
  • Is a Blood Knight: While training the rebels, Jamal shows enjoyment when boxing and wrestling with his students.
  • Is an Underdog: Jamal starts out from an unambitious slacker to a courageous and wise teacher/leader.
  • Is a True Hero: Jamal proves himself to be noble to the point where the Queen dubs him as a knight.
  • Is a Mascot with Attitude: Jamal has a snarky and quippy sense of humor, a mischievous and rebellious streak and love for fighting, specifically boxing and wrestling.
