Inspire Me Monday: Share the Spotlight

Hello friends! It's time for Inspire Me Monday once again and this time it's me, Lisa Johansen, bringing everyone some inspiration!

This week I decided to feature the Spotlight Technique. Like many others my life is a blur...I work full time, I am a volunteer firefighter for my town, I'm on the board for a local bird rehab center plus I sneak in time with my family and friends, gardening, crafting, workouts, photography etc. Some days I really want to get creative but have a small window of opportunity to do so. This is where we bring in the spotlight technique!

This technique is very simple....choose the image you would like to use and either stamp or print the image twice.

Because today is Memorial Day in the United States I decided to use the digital set Perfect Poppies with a red, white and blue theme. I knew I wanted a sentiment so on the copy on the left I placed the sentiment where I wanted it and changed the color to blue.

Next, on the 2nd copy of the image, decide what part of the flower is going to be your focal point and cut it out.

Once you have the part of your image you plan on spotlighting cut out it out and color it.

Now take your first image, adhere it to your card base and then add your spotlighted portion. I used pop up adhesive on the back of mine to get extra dimension.

Card #2

For my second card I followed the exact same steps, except this time I used the digital set Garden Fireworks.

This time I decided to go with a square shape for my image panels, using the smaller square to die cut my spotlight piece.

Now just put your card together and get your spotlighted image in place.

By using this technique it took me less than 15 mins per card to get everything done! That left me plenty of time to go finish watching the new season of Stranger Things with my family :)

If you've never tried this technique (or even if you have!) I hope you give it a chance and if you do, stop by and share a link to your creation in the comments section!

Thanks for stopping by the Power Poppy blog, have a fabulous week!

Creative Confetti: Share your Fave!

Hello all and Happy Tuesday! This past week was such a blur that I thought it would be a good one to share some of our favorite cards or colored images and hopefully spark some creativity out in the world wide web! How? Well, since the weather is getting nicer and many of you might not be creating as much, why not look through all your Power Poppy creations, pick your absolute favorite, write a blog or social post about it and share a link! If we see your best creations, we might be inspired! So, my friends, that's what this week's challenge is all about!

HOW TO PLAY: Just as I mentioned above, simply show off one of your favorite Power Poppy creations, share why it's your favorite - image, color, layout? - and then share the link using our linky below! That's all it takes this week to add an entry to our monthly drawing for $25 off in the Power Poppy Shop!

On to my creation!

I absolutely love this stamp set -- Poppies -- the whistful way those flowers just sway make my heart happy. They look so beautiful and carefree! I remember making this card and coloring the image up one night while I was sitting on the couch watching TV. I remember getting lost in the process and honestly, I kept coloring and coloring and coloring until I knew I had to stop adding depth or shadows. I love the richness of color and I like how the layout, while not intense, just seems to compliment the image. The paper colors really seem to match my colored up image as well. So, my friends, that's why this little number was my favorite! It was a time when I felt it all just "worked!"

If you'd like to read a little bit more about the Copic markers I used, just click HERE to read all about it!

Here's a little closeup for you!

And, I do have a confession! I actually have two favorite cards using this image! If you click HERE you'll see the runner up, using almost the same layout! The set I used was a clear set (pssst! It's on sale too!) but Power Poppy has a digital version - called Perfect Poppies - that uses bits and pieces of the clear set in a way you can arrange and create your own orientation, which is super cool!

Okay, now it's your turn! Let's see you show off your favorite Power Poppy creation! Please don't combine this challenge with another challenge. To be in the running, you just need to cue up an older creation, share a little bit about it and then link it up below!  It's just that simple! And, when you do, link up your creation using the linky below! Every single entry will be one more chance at winning a $25 gift code to the Power Poppy Shop!

Until next time, happy stamping!

Creative Confetti: Keep Your Distance

It's another fun Tuesday at Creative Confetti, and it's Barbara here to tell you about this week's challenge! By now, we have all been practicing social distancing. As things start to relax a bit, (never forget to wash your hands) let's have some fun with that practice and use a little social distancing on our projects. What do I mean by that?

HOW TO PLAY Simply create a project that has several images on it. You can have as many as you would like, but they should have space between them. and not be touching. Why not practice keeping your distance on our projects? We all need a little fun about now. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

ON TO MY CREATION

For my card, I used the Perfect Poppy digital stamp set. I selected one of the flowers. Then I erased some of the parts of the flower so that I could arrange them on my card front without touching the next one.

Perfect Poppies Digital Stamp Set

There are a lot of images on this set and I used the one on the lower right. After altering it, I placed three of them on my card. I was also able to make some different sizes. It's so easy to do with a digital stamp.

The sentiment is from this set -- Breathe in Life --  and I hope that my humor is not lost here as I thought it was perfect for these times that we are surviving in.

I love my Copic markers and  I used these colors on this card:

Leaves are B24, YG97 YG93
Poppies are R27, YR09. YR02
Background are C1, C3, C5, C7

And... good news! Both of these sets are on sale as I write this challenge.

It's your turn! Share your creations by linking them up below. Every single entry will be in the running for a $25 gift card to the Power Poppy Shop! Since we are not quite at the end of the month yet, stay tuned! Julie will be back next week to draw and announce our April winner!

Stay safe and until next time, Hugs!

Inspire Me Monday - Using colours you don't always reach for

Hey all, Jessie here with you today! I love Mondays, because on some of them I get to share a tid bit of my creative journey with you all! This week I decided it was time to break out of what I know best and pull out some colours I never reach for. It was challenging and fun to mix them in with the Perfect Poppies digital image.

Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red Medium, Serpentine Genuine, Green Appatite Genuine, Undersea Green and Lunar Black. Are the colours that I used to create this pretty little flower, they are not on my typical pallet or something I reach for often. It was fun to go outside of my comfort zone and use colours I don't often reach for. I actually don't think I have ever painted with Alizarin Crimson, but it was so worth it. This one came out ever so pretty. Finishing it off with a Hematite Burnt Scarlet spack in the background to give it all a vintage feel.

I do have a fun process video to share with you all of this sweet little card.

Thanks for stopping by,
hugs,
Jessie

Creative Confetti: Let's throw up a sketch!

Hi folks! How's your week shaping up so far? Grand, I hope! I thought since it had been a while since we did a sketch, maybe it was time to cue up one to inspire some crafty endeavors this week!

Instead of recreating the wheel, I decided to pull up a card from my personal blog and use THAT as inspiration! To pick just one, I decided to go with the card I created closest to this date last year. And, that's where the inspiration sprouted for this week's sketch! So, after scrolling back, here's the sketch!

And here's the card that inspired it!

As you can see, I used Power Poppy's stamp set Poppies and colored it all up with Copic Markers. I love, love, love the red and purple color combo and that splash of yellow helps give that bit of visual punch! It will be fun to see what color combo you rock! Just a little note, I used the clear stamp set but there is a similar set you can download in a digital stamp set called Perfect Poppies. It is JUST as beautiful! Be sure to check it out! ;-)

And here's a close up for you, so you can see those vibrant poppies!

Now, for those of you who love a little extra bit of a challenge, check out Power Poppy's Sketch board over on Pinterest HERE. If you want "extra credit" and want to try a different sketch to upload for this challenge, head on over to that board and choose one! Just that simple! I noticed we need to get more in the habit of ushering in sketch challenges because that board has just shy of a dozen. It would be nice to build on this and have dozens to pick from! ;-) So, keep playing along and we'll add to that board every now and then.

Until then, let's see your take on one of these layouts! Feel free to flip it any which way you like as well. Just make sure you reference the original sketch so we can see how you interpreted it! Once you're done creating, don't forget to link up your card using the linky below so that we can see your handiwork and, at that point, you'll also be in the running for a $25 gift code to the Power Poppy Shop too! So, as I love to say, get inspired then get those fingers inky!

Until next time!
