Pokémon: Destiny Deoxys is the second Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire movie, and seventh Pokémon movie overall. It was first in Japanese theaters on July 17, 2004. It then aired on the Kids' WB! programming block for North American audiences on January 22, 2005.

Plot[]

When a meteor crashes into Earth, a battle begins between Rayquaza and the Deoxys contained inside. With Rayquaza the victor, researchers pick up a portion of the meteor with the intention of studying it. When the Deoxys has finally recovered four years later, it attacks the city where the researchers call home, just in time for Ash Ketchum and friends to visit. But why is it attacking? What connection does the meteor have with it?

Reception[]

Pokémon: Destiny Deoxys received generally negative reviews. DVD Talk gave it a negative review saying that "I didn't find much of the film that was much superior to an average episode of Pokémon" and "unless you have a die-hard Pokemon fan in your household, this DVD should just be skipped". BellaOnline gave it a negative review saying that "while Pokémon: Destiny Deoxys is a decent film, I was rather disappointed by the lack of effort Miramax put into the DVD extras on this release" and that "however, if you are a fan of the Pokémon anime, you should purchase this DVD for your collection".

Trivia[]

  • Munchlax is the first Fourth Pokémon generation Pokémon to appear in the film and also, the anime.
  • For the American audience, this movie marks the first appearance of May's Bulbasaur. This is because Grass Hysteria!, in which May catches Bulbasaur, did not air in the United States until April 9, 2005, a little over two months after this movie was released.
  • The concept of a mutating alien species crashing into the North Pole is similar to the 1982 horror film The Thing.
  • This was the last movie, and by extension the last work of any Pokémon media, to be produced primarily with cel animation. Although the main series had already switched to digital in 2002, with Here's Lookin' at You, Elekid, it wasn't until after this film that the movies would make the switch.
