Ուոլես Չեյֆ, (անգլ.՝ Wallace Chafe, /ˈtʃeɪf/, սեպտեմբերի 3, 1927(1927-09-03)^[1], Քեմբրիջ, Մասաչուսեթս, ԱՄՆ - փետրվարի 3, 2019(2019-02-03)^[2]^[4]), ամերիկացի լեզվաբան։ Սանտա Բարբարայի Կալիֆոռնիական Համալսարանում վաստակավոր պրոֆեսոր և հետազոտող^[5]։

Կենսագրություն

Չեյֆը ծնվել է Մասաչուսեթս նահանգի Քեմբրիջ քաղաքում։ Ավարտել է Յեյլի համալսարանը, որտեղ էլ 1958 թվականին ստացել է դոկտորի կոչում։ 1975-1986 թվականներին եղել է Կալիֆորնիայի Բերկլիի Համալսարանի և Կալիֆորնիա և Այլ Հնդկական Լեզուների Հետազոտության կենտրոնի տնօրեն։ Ավելի ուշ նա տեղափոխվել է Սանտա Բարբարայում գտնվող Կալիֆորնիայի համալսարան և 1991 թվականին դարձել համալսարանի պատվավոր դասախոս^[6]։

Չեյֆը ճանաչողագետ էր։ Նա իմաստաբանությունը համարում էր լեզվի հիմնական բաղադրիչ։ Նա քննադատում էր Նոամ Չոմսկու Սերող լեզվաբանությունը^[7]։

Չեյֆը ազդեցիկ գիտնական էր, ուսումնասիրում էր Ամերիկայի բնիկների, մասնավորապես՝ իրոկուական և կադդոական ցեղերի լեզուները, կատարում էր խոսույթի վերլուծություն հոգելեզվաբանության, ինչպես նաև խոսքի առոգանության ոլորտում։

1986 թվականին Յոհաննա Նիկոլսի հետ միասին նա լեզվի ապացուցողականության մասին մի հատոր է խմբագրել։
