[edit]Inherited from Middle Hindi ابھال (abhal) (c. 1592) / آبھال (ābhal) (c. 1638),[1] from Sanskrit अभ्रतल (*abhratala, “sky”), a compound of अभ्र (abhrá) + तल (tala).[2] Cognate with Marathi अभेळ (abheḷ).
