Service awards proposal

Hello, Kevinalewis/2010archiveQ1! I noticed you display a service award, and would like to invite you to join the discussion over a proposed revamping of the awards.

If you have any opinions on the proposal, please participate in the discussion. Thanks! — the Man in Question (in question) 01:09, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:BernardCornwell TheLastKingdom New.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:BernardCornwell TheLastKingdom New.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 07:28, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Service award update

Hello, Kevinalewis! The requirements for the service awards have been updated, and you may no longer be eligible for the award you currently display. Don't worry! Since you have already earned your award, you are free to keep displaying it. However, you may also wish to update to the current system.

Sorry for any inconvenience. — the Man in Question (in question) 10:15, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Kevinalewis! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 4 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Harold Coyle - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Daniel Carlsson - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  3. Karen Davis (singer) - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Novels on signpost

I'm planning to run a feature on Wikiproject Novels on the signpost this week (hopefully!). The plan is to do the report in a q&a format, I'll post a bunch of questions in my userspace and you (along with alan16 and pmlineditor) respond to the questions. If we can get it done by Saturday, the feature would run on the next signpost. Do you have the time (and interest)? Thanks! --RegentsPark (sticks and stones) 16:54, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Great! I'll come up with a template sometime later today. --RegentsPark (sticks and stones) 20:16, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Okay. I have the start of my investigative report :) at User:RegentsPark/WPNovelsReport. I'll re-write the lead as the answers come in, but let me know if the summary is a fair one. Are Alan16 and pmlineditor active? And, is there anyone else I should ping (collectonian, i notice, has something to say on the talk page). --RegentsPark (sticks and stones) 23:50, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
I just saw that Alan16 went through the RfA process earlier this month and seems to have checked out for the time being (looking at the RfA, I don't blame him!). I guess that leaves mostly you and pmlineditor (if he/she is willing). --RegentsPark (sticks and stones) 03:13, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Let me know if there is anything in particular you would like to highlight. Success stories? Future plans? Dismal failures? --RegentsPark (sticks and stones) 19:37, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Could you also elaborate on the Losing Nelson question by making your response more specific to the article? Think of the response as a semi-detailed cookbook for editors who are thinking of creating (or expanding a stub) an article on a novel. --RegentsPark (sticks and stones) 19:22, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Also, I added a question on how people can get involved with the project (become members, sign up for the newsletter, practical stuff like that). You may also want to direct them to areas where you need help - I'm sure that many editors would love to do something useful but would appreciate some handholding on what to do! --RegentsPark (sticks and stones) 00:52, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

We're good to go. Take a look and see if you want to add anything else. I'll post it later this afternoon (by 8pm UTC). --RegentsPark (sticks and stones) 16:34, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks a ton for your time. If you haven't already seen it, the article is up at Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/2010-01-25/WikiProject_report. --RegentsPark (sticks and stones) 15:01, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Word count on Infobox_book

Sorry to bother you on the talk page. I responded on the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:Infobox_book, but have gotten no response yet. I thought I didn't respond the "right" way or something so I thought of dropping you a message. 94.173.41.165 (talk) Gabi, Jan. 21 —Preceding undated comment added 13:26, 21 January 2010 (UTC).

WikiProject Novels

Hi. Just to keep you up to date, I'll write the next newsletter tomorrow afternoon, maybe send it out soon after, or Saturday. Also, we're reaching the end of the terms for the coordinator positions, so if you think it's worth running another one (I personally think it would be - got some interest last time, and with the fairly steady newsletters - apart from the 2 or 3 months I wasn't able to write one - people will hopefully be interested again this time. Also I'll be happy to set it up again. Finally, I'll add what I have to offer to the signpost thing tomorrow afternoon. Regards, Alan16 (talk) 22:32, 21 January 2010 (UTC).

Hi. I've added a few things to the signpost page, and I'll start the newsletter later on today (had a short notice flat viewing yesterday which just messed up all my plans for that day). So about the coordinator elections my plan was this: set up the pages tonight, and open the sign up period straight away (maybe 00:00 UTC 24 Jan if I'm quick enough), then start the voting as soon as Febuary begins and end it when it ends, giving a 4 week voting period, similar to the last election. If I finish the pages in time tonight I'll open the sign up period, and if you think the time line I've set out is fine then we can go with that, if not I can just change dates on the other pages. Hopefully that made sense - I think I just get in to the habit of repeating myself when I type for a long time... :) Cheers, Alan16 (talk) 18:23, 23 January 2010 (UTC).

File source problem with File:3 Wakepig.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:3 Wakepig.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:01, 28 January 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. FASTILYsock(TALK) 04:01, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Novels

Hey. Been having a busy time with Uni & work at the moment so if it's all right with you I'd like to postpone the coordinator election for a week or two. Only one person has signed up so I'm sure it shouldn't cause to much hassle. Thanks. Alan16 (talk) 00:25, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Wow!

As someone who enjoys novels immensely, I would really like to commend you on WikiProject Novels! Keep up the great work... and if I ever find the time from Wikignoming, admin work and other commitments outside of Wikipedia, I would like to see if I could help. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 02:44, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for that - all help welcome. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:44, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Olympics interview

Aloha! I am tasked with the Wikipedia Signpost report on WikiProject Olympics, to coincide with the 2010 Winter Olympics. I have compiled some questions at here, and was wondering if you would be interested in answering them on behalf of the project. Thanks, Ks0stm If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. 06:52, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Request

As a non-biased member of the Percy Jackson Task Force, could you take a look at Nico and Annabeth to assess whether or not the tags are still necessary? Also, I would like to know what else would be necessary to improve Nico's page to C-class. Thank you! PrincessofLlyr (talk) 01:55, 9 February 2010 (UTC) The In universe description is still valid. Wikipedia is intended to be seen from "this world". In other world what relevance is this character to this world. How did the author come to name them -who is the character drawn from, critical reviews, film adaptations etc. (not all these will be relevant. Try to see this material from someone who has never read the books, maybe never will do, and word and phrase from the perspective of person reviewing this type of literature, the meaning of the name characters in Fantasy etc. I.e. not from "in world". :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 14:09, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
