House Hewett of Oakenshield rules over Oakenshield, one of the Shield Islands of the Reach.

Lord Hewett's castle, with thick walls and studded oaken gates evoking the ancient arms of the house, sits above the harbor of Lord Hewett's Town, which is a relatively big port.^[1]

They blazon their arms with an oaken escutcheon studded with iron, a field bendy of undulating blue and white.^[2][1] Their words are not mentioned in the books.

History

The Shield Islands are a considerable sea strength and were the first line of defense during the days when the ironborn pirates tried to sail up the Mander to sack the wealth of the Reach.^[1]

A Storm of Swords

Ser Glendon Hewett goes to Castle Black with Janos Slynt and Alliser Thorne, and is the man that drags Jon Snow from his bed to accuse him of betrayal.^[3]

A Feast for Crows

King Euron Greyjoy and his captains celebrate the ironmen's conquest of the Shield Islands in Lord Hewett's castle. Lord Humfrey Hewett is muzzled and tied on his chair during the feast, his wife and daughters forced to serve the unwanted guests. His bastard daughter Falia Flowers becomes Euron's lover and suggests the idea to make them serve naked. At least one of Lord Hewett's daughters is raped during the feast, by Left-Hand Lucas Codd. The island of Oakenshield is given by Euron to Nute the Barber.^[1]

The tidings that reach King's Landing afterwards report Lord Hewett's death.^[4]

  • Lady Hewett, his wife. She is handsome though somewhat stout.^[1]
