A Storm of Swords
The new house is created after House Florent, the rulers of Brightwater Keep, are stripped of lands and titles for rebelling against the Iron Throne. The lands are bestowed on Ser Garlan Tyrell, the second son of Lord Mace Tyrell, for his participation in the Battle of the Blackwater. Brightwater, however, remains in the hands of a Florent garrison.[2]
A Feast for Crows
From King's Landing, Lord Garlan brings half of the Tyrell strength back to the Reach to press his claim on Brightwater Keep, still held by its castellan and younger brother of the late Lord Alester Florent, Ser Colin Florent.[3][1] Before he can lay siege, news of Euron Greyjoy's conquest of the Shield Islands reaches him. He begins to gather men from across the Reach to retake the islands.[4]
