Mikau is an important Zora character in Majora's Mask who had been tragically killed.[1]
Biography[]
Mikau is the lead guitarist of the popular Zora band The Indigo-Go's and is also a Zoran hero.[2] He and Japas (the bass player) often compose songs of their own, much to the pianist Evan's chagrin.[3][4] He also has a close if not romantic relationship with the band's lead singer, Lulu.[5]
After Mikau finds out that Lulu's seven Eggs were stolen by the Gerudo Pirates, Evan charges him with the task of retrieving the Zora Eggs, in the hopes that doing so would recover Lulu's voice in time for their upcoming performance at the Carnival of Time.[6] Before heading to the Pirates' Fortress, Evan tells him where to obtain empty Bottles to store the singer's Eggs. And so, Mikau goes to the Waterfall Rapids to race the Beaver Bros..[7][8]
Mikau then proceeds to infiltrate the Pirates' Fortress, but does not succeed in retrieving any of the Eggs and ends up floating in the Great Bay Coast, mortally wounded from the injuries he received by the Gerudo. Link, upon entering the coast for the first time, finds and rescues the dying Zora, and drags him to shore, where, using the last of his strength, he plays a final song in which he pleads that Link assist Lulu in getting her voice back.[9] After playing the "Song of Healing" for Mikau with the Ocarina of Time, Mikau sees a vision of himself standing in front of Lulu, before walking toward the rest of the Indigo-Go's band members, holding hands. He then ultimately perishes with his body fading away, and his soul is trapped within the Zora Mask. Wearing it allows the young Hero of Time to assume the form of Mikau, known as Zora Link. His spirit appears briefly thereafter to sing Link his farewell songs: "We the Zora" and the "Zora Fight Song."[10][11][12]
Mikau's Zora Guitar is placed right next to the entrance to Great Bay Coast by Link, serving as the resting place of the young guitarist.[13] Despite this, Link as his Zora form plays the same guitar whenever the Ocarina of Time is used.

- Mikau is similar to Darmani III (the Terminan counterpart of Darunia), in that he's a hero of a non-Hylian race that unfortunately died through accidents and given their soul toward Link as a transforming Mask to fulfill their final wishes.
- Mikau's relationship with Lulu is a mirror to the Hero of Time's with Princess Ruto, who is the latter's Hyrulean counterpart.
- Mikau shares the same voice with ???.
- Although never confirmed by Nintendo, some fans believe that Mikau is the father of the Zora Eggs, due to Lulu's relationship with him.
- If Link plays the Elegy of Emptiness as Zora Link, a complete statue of Mikau would form by the hero.
- Mikau's Zora Guitar, which serves at his tombstone, is in different areas between the original game and Majora's Mask 3D.
