Biography

Alan Irwin Menken is an American composer and conductor, best known for his scores and songs for films produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and Skydance Animation.

His father was a dentist who also played the piano, and his mother was an actress. Alan wanted to be a musician at a young age.

Menken teamed up with Howard Ashman and they worked on many different films together. Some of their notable work includes The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and some of Aladdin. Sadly, Ashman died in 1991 at the age of 40.

Alan Menken continued working with Disney, and wrote songs and scores for films such as Tangled and Disenchanted. Menken has won eight Academy Awards, a Tony Award, eleven Grammy Awards, seven Golden Globe Awards, and a Daytime Emmy Award.
