Waiau Toa / Clarence

[edit]

MOS:PLACE goes both ways, BilledMammal. Either we're following it and we use the article's title of Waiau Toa / Clarence River, or we're not, and it's fine to continue using Clutha River / Mata-Au. Which would you prefer? Turnagra (talk) 19:45, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Clarence River is at its current title for disambiguation; we don't refer to the disambiguated name. For example, we don't use Georgia (country), we use Georgia. BilledMammal (talk) 19:50, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing in MOS:PLACE says anything of the sort - at any rate, natural disambiguation is a pretty different situation to parenthetical disambiguation. Turnagra (talk) 19:54, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see a difference; when a name is ambiguous we use disambiguation, and when it is not we don't. In this template the name is not ambiguous, and so we don't use it. BilledMammal (talk) 20:17, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's absolutely different to that – what it's not different to are the other MOS:PLACE changes you've made. So again, either we're not following MOS:PLACE or we are. You can't pick and choose only when it suits you. Turnagra (talk) 05:08, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
