The LNM Institute of Information Technology (LNMIIT) is a deemed university, located in Jaipur, India, on a 100-acre (40 ha) campus.

The institute is established as a registered not-for-profit organization, is jointly funded by the Government of Rajasthan and the Lakshmi Niwas And Usha Mittal Foundation under a public-private partnership model

It commenced its first academic session in July 2003 and achieved Deemed-to-be-University status in 2006, granted by the UGC under the De-Novo category. All engineering programs offered by the institute are approved by AICTE. [5]

Admissions to on-campus programs are solely merit-based and there is no provision for capitation fees or a management quota.


History

Foundation & Early Years

As a deemed university, LNMIIT was jointly set up by the state government and the Lakshmi and Usha Mittal Foundation, as an autonomous non-profit organization. The institute was founded on 14th September 2002, In the initial months, lectures were held at a temporary campus in Jaipur,[6] before the infrastructure was ready at its present campus.

In under a year, The permanent campus was inaugurated on 1 May 2005 by the then Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Vasundhra Raje & Lakshmi Niwas Mittal, about 10 km from the Jaipur-Agra Highway and 20 km from the heart of Jaipur City. The first Director of the college was Vishwanath Sinha.

LNMIIT became a Deemed University established under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 by notification from the commission on 29th June 2005. The initial intake was 30 students & Communication and Computer Engineering (CCE) was the first programme offered by the institute.

The institute started a Master of Science (M.S.) degree (by research) from June 2005.

Growth and Expansion

By 2006 the batch size had increased to 125 students and a Graduate programme was started.

In 2008, Two new UG programmes were introduced: Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) and Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) and student intake was increased to 180. The institute also added Master of Technology (M. Tech) and Ph D degrees. Along with a creation of the Mathematics department and a Humanities & Social Science department.

From 2009, B. Tech (Honors) and a five year Dual degree programme (B. Tech + M. Tech) were introduced with all three of the disciplines the institute was offering. Along with these LNMIIT introduced Engineering Physics (EP) and Mathematics via Information Technology (MIT) courses which were 4 year B.S. or 5 year dual B.S. + M.S.

By 2012 the intake had increased to 300 students across five disciplines. Along with this the institute also introduced the counselling cell (c-cell) for the campus.

In 2013 a new discipline was introduced namely Mechanical (Mechatronics) Engineering (MME) with 60 students as intake. As of March 2014, there were 63 members of faculty across all domains.

In 2015, another domain Mechanical Engineering (ME) was started in the institute. LNMIIT ranked as the third best private engineering college in the country by EDU-RAND.[7]

In 2021, LNMIIT Founder Lakshmi Niwas Mittal had approved an ambitious 7-year, 400 crore project under the name 'Mission Quantum Leap'. This project aims to bring about transformation of LNMIIT into one of the best research universities in its domain of choice in several new and current areas of relevance to the nation and society. In the first phase of the project a world class modern multidisciplinary center of research and development namely the 'LNMIIT International Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Data Science & Applications' (LICAI) would be constructed at a cost of 200 crores.[8][9]

Academic Facilities

LNMIIT's campus is located 20 km (12.5 mi) East of Jaipur city centre. The campus is located 18 km from Jaipur railway station, 24 km from the International Airport and is spread over an area of 100 acres (40 ha) with IT-enabled classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, a rich central library, and other modern amenities.

There are 19 air-cooled lecture halls equipped with multimedia facilities, and with virtual teaching/ learning aids. Additionally, there are 2 seminar halls which are used as mini auditoriums and the institute also has an open-air theatre used as an auditorium. In addition, 400+ capacity multi-utility hall is also available as part of student activity centre. The institute has 32 state-of-the-art laboratories having latest technology equipment.

The central library of the Institute is fully automated and equipped with the anti-theft security system. It has 19000+ text and reference books, 190+ e-books, subscription of 65 National and International Periodicals, and about 48,160+ e-journals which are accessible through subscribed database.

Residential and Dining Facilities

The Institute has four Boys and one Girls Hostels to accommodate the students inside the campus. Hostel rooms are furnished which are quite spacious and comfortable. Hostel's infrastructure is fastened with amenities like 24-hour power supply, cold and hot water availability, Intranet and Internet connectivity, clean and hygienic environment, central air cooling system, common laundry support, reading room, common rooms with TV, various indoor games, 24-hour security and surveillance system, dedicated gym for girls inside girls Hostel and many more facilities inside the hostel and campus.

Presently there are three full-fledged Mess, Mess – A, Mess – B, and Mess – C. All together the mess handling capacity at Mess A, B, and C is 2100 students (appx.). These messes serve breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner. Once a month, the mess organizes a special lunch/dinner. There is a provision for the sick meal also. During festivals, there is also a provision of the fast type of food.

To fulfill the day-to-day needs of the campus residents, a mini shopping complex is in place which includes stationery shop, Amul parlour, laundry shop, salon, juice shop, departmental store and a restaurant.


Along with these the institute also has a Student Activity Centre (SAC), Medical Unit, Outdoor sports facilities and Bus Services to the city for the Students.

LNMIIT offers four-year undergrad Bachelors of Technology [B.Tech] degrees and five-year Integrated M.Tech [B.Tech + M.Tech] in various branches and disciplines. It also offers B.Tech Honors with specialization and offers various minor courses.

Higher Degrees

LNMIIT also offers Masters of Technology [M.Tech], M.S. by Research, M.Sc. and Ph.D degrees.

Admissions

The LNM Institute of Information Technology (LNMIIT) has a comprehensive and competitive admissions process for its undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. The institute aims to select well-rounded students through a holistic evaluation process.

Undergrad Programmes

  1. Regular Mode: Primarily based on JEE (Main) scores. Applicants must have passed both Class 10 and 12 with at least 60% aggregate marks.
  2. Direct Admission for Students Abroad (DASA): For foreign nationals, Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), and Non-Resident Indians (NRI) with a valid SAT score.
  3. Board Toppers Mode: Direct admission for top-performing students from the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education.
  4. Lateral Entry: For students seeking admission directly into the second or third semester.

Postgraduate and Doctoral Admissions

Admissions to postgraduate programs, including M.Tech and Ph.D., are based on the candidate's performance in written tests and interviews. For some programs, national level examination scores like GATE and UGC-NET are also considered.
