Action or work produced?
[edit]Due to the quirk of the English language, both "the act of producing a musical work" and "the work that was produced" are being represented in this same item. The difference between this and musical work (Q2188189) is not well-established either. --朝彦/Asahiko (talk) 02:16, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
- +1. songwriting (Q17344835) (one of subsets) is process or result? Now songwriting (Q17344835) is composed musical work (Q207628)->musical work (Q2188189)->work of art (Q838948)->creative work (Q17537576)->intellectual work (Q15621286)->work (Q386724)->artificial object (Q15401930)->artificial object (Q16686448). --Fractaler (talk) 10:48, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- +1. Similar confusion here, too. I wondered whether the conceptualization of composed musical work (Q207628) was that it represented, loosely, that a piece of music was written down versus improvised (musical improvisation (Q1049625) is not subclassed under musical work (Q2188189) so probably not the term to indicate a work of music created via improvisation). In the end, I'm likely to use the safer option of musical work (Q2188189).--Jsoenyun (talk) 00:52, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
- After some more digging I realized that there is music composing (Q92186587) which seems like a clear term for the act of musical creation itself, and composed musical work (Q207628) could be reclaimed to refer only instance of the work that is produced by the process. There's still some confusion as current English labels include "composing" and "composition in music," both of which would easily lead to misunderstanding. I'd recommend that they be removed if others agree.--Jsoenyun (talk) 18:31, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
It looks like we actually don't have an item for "piece of music". I'll create one,and take this one to refer to the process. Actually there's musical work (Q2188189) 73.202.12.249 01:15, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
Composition
[edit]@Moebeus: "Q105543609 shouldn't have any subclasses" - something new. What's the sense to prohibit subclasses? Especially for the (most?) general class which by definition should be a superclass for other musical works... --Infovarius (talk) 19:17, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
- Without direct link automatic listing of compositions in https://reasonator.toolforge.org/?q=Q610902&lang=ru doesn't work. --Infovarius (talk) 20:03, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
- I believe I've explained to you earlier that Q105543609 is an effort to untangle the conflation of composition (the act), composition (the product), musical work (lots of things), single, and track. It's also stated on the item itself. If you would have some patience and let the work finish that would be very much appreciated. Moebeus (talk) 20:10, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
