Problem with values
[edit]It seems that some values are incorrectly defined, see 2:3 (Q98929171) that used the definition of 3:2 (Q20970431). Some cleanup is needed. @Macondo: --- Jura 12:39, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
- Should we create a second set of values? Currently most (if not all) are defined as width to height aspect ratio (Q20970434) in their labels, e.g. Q20970431 with "3:2", with "3:2 (W:H)" as alias.
- Depending on the field (or the language?), people are expecting (or using them as) height to width aspect ratio (Q21075810).
- We could add "2:3" and "2:3 (H:W)" as aliases to Q20970431 , but this is likely to make it even more confusing.
- The second set of values would look like Q109448502.
- Maybe the labels (at least in English) should be "2:3 (H:W)" and "3:2 (W:H)". I updated that for the samples.
- Numeric values for both could be provided (samples also at Q20970431 and Q109448502 with criterion used (P1013)). --- Jura 09:13, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
- ok, it is already corrected. Macondo (talk) 21:58, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
OTH the property description does call for width to height value. Maybe the property label should include "(W:H)". --- Jura 12:29, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
Video games
[edit]Aspect ratios on video game items were previously permitted as a subclass of audiovisual work (Q2431196) but this edit by Trade made it incompatible. I know there's some games that don't have a set aspect ratio and will just dynamically scale to the window size, but otherwise is there any reason we would not want to have an aspect ratio for video games with a fixed ratio? --Lewis Hulbert (talk) 19:21, 7 July 2024 (UTC)

- How are we even gonna source this without original research? Trade (talk) 20:58, 7 July 2024 (UTC)
- With difficulty. It's available in Play:Right (Q104518362) (example) but other than that I'm not too sure. I think the original research concerns would equally apply to movies and paintings, which this property is already actively in use for. --Lewis Hulbert (talk) 21:56, 7 July 2024 (UTC)
