With half the season over, trouble seems to be brewing everywhere and for everyone.
In the last episode, Theon—encouraged by one of the men assigned to his command—decided that he wasn’t going off to raid at Stoney Shore as his father had commanded. This episode opens with the revelation of what he has done instead and it is not welcome news for anyone. Even Theon himself finds matters playing out very differently than he had expected.
Way up North, Jon receives some lectures from an old Ranger as they head off on a dangerous mission. Later, he is faced with a difficult decision and his choice ends up making his own situation even more precarious.
His sister Arya, meanwhile, finds herself constantly running head-first into danger, first as Harrenhal is visited by an old friend of the family and then as she steals an important letter and finds herself apprehended by one of Tywin’s men.
Still, her peril is eclipsed by that of Sansa, who finds herself caught in the midst of trouble as the populace of King’s Landing decides that they have had enough of King Joffrey.
In Robb’s camp, we see the Young Wolf distracted from his duties, first by more pleasant matters and the return of his mother and then by grim news delivered by Lord Roose Bolton.
Finally, in Qarth Daenerys has little success at finding backers for her campaign to (re)take the Iron Throne among the Thirteen and even less success at keeping herself and her people safe.
