Variant of Lift

Bell-shaped contraptions[1] are horseshoe-shaped lifts that move along tracks in New Super Mario Bros. These lifts are composed of blocks that Mario (or Luigi) must wall-jump between in order to keep up with them. The blocks themselves are striped yellow and white, similar to the moving poles within the game that also move along tracks.

There are only two bell-shaped contraptions in New Super Mario Bros., both of which are in World 2-Tower. They occur in a doored room off the beaten path that contains one of the level's Star Coins and another door near the top of the room. In order to collect the Star Coin and reach the second door, Mario must wall-jump between the opposing columns of the first contraption as it travels along the track. As it reaches the end of the track, Mario must drop out of the contraption, quickly jump along the bridges, and land on top of the contraption. As the bell-shaped contraption travels back in the direction it came from, Mario can collect the Star Coin and jump into the upper alcove where the second contraption and door occur. Accessing this door requires Mario to wall-jump between the opposing columns of this second contraption.
