Cover/Title: Honestly, it wasn't the title or cover that drew me in. I hear a lot about this author from my teens and his books seem to be popular. I wanted to check out his books for myself.

Characters: I loved reading about the different gods. I think Anubis might be my favorite.

Plot: Sadie and Carter are dragged into a dangerous mission to stop a dangerous Egyptian god, Set. They learn a lot about themselves, their family and the gods along the way.

Overall: This is a fantastic adventure into the world of Egyptian gods. I love how the author wrote the book in alternating POVs (Sadie & Carter). This book has definitely caught my interest and I am looking forward to reading more by this author. ( )

This was so trivial and young compared to the Percy Jackson series (which is, in itself, young and fun). I still think that a much younger elementary school crowd would like it, and perhaps that is the intended audience. ( )

This is my first time reading the Kane Chronicles but I would definitely recommend it. I just never got around to it as a kid but even as an adult I really enjoyed this story. I was really drawn to it because of my love for Egyptian mythology. I loved Carter and Sadie, and found the story well written and engaging. As an African American there were certain points in the story that really resonated and then some things that made me cringe a bit but it didn't turn me off from the story. I will be jumping into book two next and I hope I continue to enjoy. ( )

Rick Riordan has made a living writing interesting, relatable characters for a middle-school audience, and this book is no different. The plot revolves around Carter and Sadie Kane, a pair of teens who find out that they are “blood of the pharaohs,” the most powerful descendants of ancient Egyptian kings to be born in 3,000 years. Their mother died under mysterious circumstances six years before the book begins, and when their wandering-archeologist of a father tries to revive the Egyptian gods in a bid to “make things right,” the siblings are launched onto a path of power and world-destroying danger. The story's first person narration is passed between the siblings, which highlights the emotional heart of the novel. This also makes it extremely accessible to both genders. Fans of the Percy Jackson or Harry Potter series will likely enjoy book one of The Kane Chronicles. ( )

Middle School
The Kane twins discover that they are ancient descendants of Egyptians that could use magic!
Another fun read that is more for entertainment reasons than learning!

read this series back in middle school so I don't really remember much of the plot if I'm going to be honest BUT i do remember enjoying them and loving the sibling relationship between Carter and Sadie. This will be a re-read eventually, as I never got around to reading the 3rd book. ( )

To someone who's relatively new to Egyptian mythology, the graphic novels are a brilliant way to begin and I loved the book one of kane chronicles.

I got to learn a lot about the Egyptian gods and their possible origin stories while I stared in awe at the beautiful illustrations bt Orpheus Collar.

Rick Riordan has a brilliant way of presenting his stories and the characters were lovely. I can't wait to get to book 2. ( )

Fast paced and fun. The Egyptian gods work differently than the Greek/Roman gods so it feels fresh. I'm excited to continue this series! ( )

I was very up and down about this one.

The beginning ties into the end so much better, for why the preamble addresses the reader (within the reader/world). Though I am not holding out a huge hope on this as chapter one of Percy did that and never came back to it after book one.

I do like the tape recording aspect, with comments between the siblings. But I found myself having to correct myself over his strong holds too many times. I feel he has discovered only one or two ways of doing certain things, which he used sensibly in Percy Jackson, but I was disappointed to see him lying on in this one.

That aside I really loved getting to have a children's novel book walk around in the Egyptian Gods. And I'm quite interested and impressed in the fact he decided to keep both series in the same world.

It accomplishes what it is intended to do, which is to be a fast-paced adventure, mostly for teen boys.

With its 2010 storyline of possession by Egyptian gods, it reminded me naturally a lot of the Egyptian mythos of Stargate SG-1, which had its final season 10 in 2007.

It's basically the story of two siblings who have adventures allying with and battling with various Egyptian gods. The ages of the siblings don't seem quite right, for their actions it seems to me like they should be a bit older, particularly Sadie.

Overall entertaining, with a typical Riordan mix of adventure, humour, and learning about mythology along the way.

I found both the sequels weak; you're better off just reading this first book. ( )

Interesting, compelling, and complex heroes and villains. Each character has a distinctive voice. The Egyptian mythology and magic is completely different from the Riordan’s Greek/Roman mythology series and it actually makes sense. The science and art of this universe’s magic feels realistic and imaginative. Fun and full of depth. Loved this series even more than the Percy Jackson series. Plot was well-paced and without holes. Couldn’t put it down till I reached the end. ( )

Well, to put it simply: there's a bunch of books I'd rather be reading instead of this one.

First impressions (17.12.2012):
It doesn't click. One doesn't complain enough, other complains too much.
It's just not that interesting.

Riordan is scoring another win with the Kane Chronicles. Can't wait to read the rest of them. ( )

In The Red Pyramid, Rick Riordan maintains the humor and action-packed adventure I enjoyed so much in his Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, this time pairing it with Egyptian mythology instead of Greek. Since I'm rather less familiar with Egyptian mythology, I appreciated being introduced to so many of its gods and goddesses, but though Riordan does a nice job of weaving the mythology into the adventure, the effect is not quite as fresh and interesting as his efforts in the Percy Jackson books. Also, Sadie and Carter Kane's first-person perspectives---shaped by Riordan's distinctive style---sounded just enough like Percy Jackson that it wasn't until the end of the book that I really felt I'd gotten to know them. Still, The Red Pyramid is a fun, clever read, and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

I’ve always wanted to start on the Kane Chronicles Series because well..it’s Rick Riordan! But somehow, I never managed to start with all the Greek, Roman, and Norse Mythology I’ve got going on. However, with the plenty of time at my disposal during this COVID-19 pandemic, I finally had the guts to start with this first book.

I’m in awe, well as always with Rick’s books. He always manage to make all things light and interesting. I thought I’ve had enough of mythologies and yet here’s the Egyptian Culture tickling on my imagination and challenging my curiosity. As I was reading this book, my imagination was all fired up. The two voices of Carter and Sadie made the story even more interesting. Their relationship reminded me of my siblings especially my younger brother. The plot twists are incredible. The humor of Rick, which was something I most certainly love about him, was not that much portrayed as compared to the Percy Jackson Series (my absolute favorite). Overall, this is a great book full of fun little facts. I cannot wait to read on the next two books! ( )

Fun book. Got this for my granddaughter who loved the Percy Jackson series. Rather than continue with the Greek gods, I thought the books about Egypt might be fun and decided to read it first so I could talk to her about it. The story is about a brother and a sister who become involved with the Egyptian gods when chaos tries to destroy ma'at. Their father, a famous Egyptologist, sets this in motion by setting loose Set and other gods. The two kids quickly become involved with magicians, traveling through portals, and being possessed by gods. They have to make hard decisions in order to save the world and maintain ma'at. Riordan does a good job writing about all of this. There are a few mistakes when it comes to hieroglyphs, etc., but nothing that detracts from the story. This is the first book in a series of three. I have been in a bit of a slump since Harry Potter is over. Nothing will ever compare to my love of that series or those characters, but this is definitely going to be a new favorite fantasy series of mine. I love egyptian myths, I always have and that is what caught my attention with this book. I haven't read the Percy Jackson novels, but I plan too after seeing how great this was. The magic is interesting, and the gods are done in a way that makes you both like and dislike them which I think is smart. The two main characters, brother and sister, Carter, who is 14 and has been living/traveling all over the world with his archeologist father since his mother died when he was 8; and Sadie, 12, who has been raised by her grandparents in England since she was 6. They took her father to court after her mother's death and got custody of her. Since the two of them basically only saw each other about 2 days out of the year, they weren't all that close. During a trip to the British museum, their father sort of blows it up, releases Ancient Egyptian gods, and then disappears. Needless to say, the kids are a bit confused. They find out that their father is a magician, so was their mother, the Egyptian god Set is trying to use their father to gain power, and the other magicians are against them. I can't sat too much more without giving away important plot points, but this is a fantastic story. The characters are both very interesting, you get to hear from both Sadie and Carter in alternating chapters and both of them grow on you pretty quickly. The gods are very complicated and dynamic characters, you never quite know if they are good or evil, or in the case of the novel, order vs. chaos. The magicians and the House of Life characters are the same, you never quite know who to trust, who is on the kids side etc. and it makes for very fun reading. I can't wait for the next book. ( )

I honestly love this book! Rick is an amazing author and I’ve read this one once before and am glad I’m rereading it! It took me back to my Egyptian obsession that I had as a child (I feel like everyone had one)! Carter and Sadie are two fantastic characters and I love seeing them grow as siblings and learn how to be magicians as well. ( )
