"Through moving photographs from the Yad Vashem Archives in Jerusalem, Israel, archivist Chana Byers Abells has created an unforgettable essay about the children who lived and died during the Holocaust. And while it is a story of death and loss, it is also a story of courage and endurance. It is a story that must be told to all of today's children."
A beautiful book of photographs of Jewish children before and during the Holocaust. The text is written for young children. It's very sad. While I think that children need to be exposed the the reality of the Holocaust and other atrocities, I'd be hesitant to read this book to a young child unless Holocaust remembrance was already part of their life. An older child, however, might be interested.
This book was very sad, and it made the story of the holocaust even more real, if possible. It was nice to put faces to all of the stories heard about this time in history.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I think that it is a great way to show children what people have had to go through, but I feel that some of the pictures are a little too much for young children.
Summary:
This book was about the families that were Jewish and were dealing with the Holocaust and what they went through. The book described how hard it was back then for them and how they were treated.
Personal Reaction:
This book was a very good book to me, I think this a great way to show children how it was for those children. This was a very sad book but very good.
Classroom Extension Ideas:
This would be a great book to read to the children in a classroom when they are learning about the Holocaust. To see that children that are the same age or younger were treated so badly.

Very few words but extremely moving pictures. Very effective for talking about the inhumanities experienced during WWII.
Summary: A story of Jewish Children During WW1, and the Holocaust. It tells of the hardships that these children faced. The persecution that they endured. Hunger, cold, and even death.
Personal Review: The pictures were real, and not some drawings from someones mind. Actual real pictures that stired up real emotions. The pictures showed the depth of the suffering that these children had to endure. A true trubitue to the strenght of survival.
Classroom extensions: Can be used for history to show that everybody suffers in war. Can be used to show the harsh relaities of racism and hate
